Hello, I am holding a non-immi(ED) visa for my masters study and the visa will expire on 31 May 2022. I want to change to dependent visa as my husband is working here. Is there any way to change visa without leaving Thailand.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the possibility of changing their non-immigrant ED visa (for education) to a dependent visa due to their husband working in Thailand. It was clarified that it's not possible to change the purpose of an issued visa directly. However, if the user is on an Extension of Stay, they may have the option to change the reason for the extension to that of a 'trailing spouse,' requiring collaboration with their husband's employer and potentially the provision of their marriage certificate and other documents. It is advisable to consult with the local immigration office with their husband and a representative from his company to understand the specific requirements.

okay now that we know you're on an extension of stay and NOT any visa you could possibly change the reason for your extension from one based on study to one based on marriage to a foreigner who legally works here (trailing spouse)

You would NOT be getting any visa, just changing the reason for your extension. Your husbands employer needs to provide documentation, you may need your marriage certificate certified by your embassy, and other documents too

SO

go to the immigration office with your husband, and someone from his company if you can to see what is required to do the change of reason to "trailing spouse" AND to see if they will even allow it.

While it might be a hassle to get out and back in to start the process to get the in coutnry Non-O and then the matching extension IF your immigration office says it can't be done like I outlined, that is gonna be your only choice ๐Ÿ˜•

There is no way you can change the reason of an issued and used visa afterwords.

But I guess you are on an Extension of Stay, big stamp you got from the Immigration Office. You have to talk with your immigration office and your husband employer if it is possible to apply next time for an Extension of Stay based on being his dependent.

But Immi say you can change TRV to Non O Spouse visa.

Do i understand something wrong?

No, if you are inside Thailand with a valid visa exempt entry or tourist visa and have minimum 15 day stay left you can apply for a non immigrant visa inside Thailand if you can meet the requirements.

including a Non-O for trailing spouse? I always thought you had to obtain this outside of Thailand?

, yes I am regularly taking extensions and current one is till end of may. Normally for change of visa type I need to leave Thailand. But in current situation its a hassle. So I wanted to know if there is any rule change during covid so that i do not have to leave.

you do not change visa, you like to apply for a new Extension of Stay with a another reason. As mentioned this depends on the employer of your husband and immigration.
