Can I extend my dog's import certificate for moving to Thailand, or do they need to do visa runs?

Hello everyone - maybe a bit of a weird one 🐶

But, I am hoping of making a long term move to Thailand going down the DTV route but initially coming in as a tourist. I’ve been preparing my dog for a move (she came with me from Mexico > Europe) but just noticed that the import certificate is only valid for 60 days.

Does anyone know if these dog import certificates can be extended or have experience with owning a “foreign” dog in Thailand for a period longer than 60 days? Or can dogs do “visa runs” too, seems unlikely as paperwork is so difficult to import/export in the first place.

Any advice super appreciated! Already reached out to Relo4Pets just waiting for them to get back to me and was curious to see if anyone else has been through this 🐶✨

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquired about bringing their dog to Thailand under a tourist visa while preparing for a long-term move through the DTV route. They raised concerns about the 60-day validity of the dog import certificate and whether it can be extended or if dogs can do 'visa runs'. Community responses clarified that the import permit must be used within 60 days upon arrival, but this does not restrict the dog's stay duration in Thailand. New permits for pets are needed if re-entering Thailand after leaving.

Just brought my dog with an import permit and you have sixty days to use it. Once you get here you pay for two permits. One for them to enter and one if they have never been here. The second permit you need to keep in case you ever leave and want to come back you don’t have to pay a fee again.

As Lynette said, the permit must be used within 60 days. It has nothing to do with how long the animal can stay in Thailand. I don’t think there’s a limit to that.

The permit is valid to use within 60 days. Not a permit of 60 days to live in Thailand.
