Can I stay in Thailand for two long visits in 2026 using a tourist visa?

Evening all

2 long visits in 2026 question.

This year my partner and I are planning 2 longer stays, and want to know if it’s doable.

Stay 1. 10 weeks. 2nd May to 11th July. 70 days.

Stay 2. 12 weeks. 1st Nov ‘26 to 24th Jan 2027. 84 days.

Visa wise, am I right thinking the first trip will be on a normal 60 day Single Entry Tourist Visa, then our 1st extension for 30 days (will only need 10 of them). Is this extension done at local immigration?

2nd trip, how’s best/guaranteed to get the 84 day stay, as part of it falls into 2027.

Or do we need to apply for a different kind of visa for one, or both trips?

2027 won’t be an issue as we will both go out long term on retirement visas.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the possibility of staying in Thailand for 10 weeks and then 12 weeks across two separate visits in 2026. They are considering using a 60-day Single Entry Tourist Visa followed by a 30-day extension for the first trip. For the second trip, they want to ensure they can stay for 84 days, which overlaps into 2027 when they plan to transition to retirement visas. Community responses suggest that the user may not need a tourist visa if they are eligible for a 60-day visa exemption and can also extend their stay at local immigration.

don't get me wrong there's no problem getting single entry tourist visa from the thai consulate in your country before you come here on both trips if you want..

BUT

just having a visa isn't going to guarantee anything and it won't give you more time than a 60 day free stamp entry.

If you're going to buy the tourist visas get them one at a time about a month before your planned trip it (a single entry tourist visa is valid for 3 months <- that's how long you have to enter thailand on them)

Sounds like you're doing typical tourist stays.. I don't believe you'll need a single entry tourist visa (as long as you come from a country that gets a free stamp 60 day visa exempt), just come in visa exempt, take the 30 day extension at the immigration office serving tine area where you stay

Second visit sounds routine as well, again wouldn't bother with a tourist visa (as it gives you no more time than a 60 day visa exempt entry)

The heightened scrutiny given to people entering thailand repeatedly are mostly aimed at people 'living here' on free stamp entries, w/extensions and spending very little time out of the country.

You do not appear to fall into that demographic..
