Stupid question maybe, but if you’re closing deals and getting money sent to you while you’re in Thailand, this is all okay as long as you’re on DTV visa or getting paid in your western countries bank account? What’s considered working in Thailand Vs not?

Let’s at you sell products online or subscriptions to courses.

Isn’t that considered working in the country?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion clarifies that selling products online or offering subscriptions from Thailand while on a DTV visa is generally permitted, provided the income originates from outside Thailand. E-commerce activities are not deemed as working in Thailand, as long as the services or products do not relate to the Thai market. It is advisable to maintain payments in a foreign bank account to avoid any compliance issues.

You cant sell products to thai companies. You can invest though.

The whole idea of the DTV is to bring money into Thailand from other countries

Assuming your products or courses have nothing to do with Thailand it shouldn't be an issue

What if i'm making travel videos and selling advice?
John **********
Anonymous participant you can't sell advice in Thailand, if you're just a guy on your own making videos for YouTube or whatever that's probably OK

global videos. Payment to PayPal then home bank account. No bank linked to Thailand.

Anonymous participant that should probably be ok but I'd play down the thai part (assuming your going to film the videos here)

I would have payments made to a company bank account outside of Thailand then transfer what you need to a personal account in Thailand. Keep it simple and not open to any misinterpretation. PS: Have you a Thai Bank account accepting Stripe or other payments?

Anonymous participant I do not think it is easy to set up payments here without a Thai Ltd company. Then you are opening up a whole can of worms. Paypal is stopped foreing individual accounts in Thailand. Take payments in overseas bank.Transfer in to local personal bank account what you need or access foreing funds with ATM. Much cleaner and under current Thai tax rules only monies remitted "May" be assessable. Always best to take the simplest route.

I’m just making money from this new business model. People buying subs to my Patreon which has party videos from Asia.

I’m just not sure if that’s legal if I’m living in Thailand? I keep hearing yes and no.

Just think of a video say 4k walk through Bangkok recorded on the phone and people buying my Patreon sub to Unlock the video.

Anonymous participant I think it is a grey area. Thai law, like many in the digital age, have not kept up with changing technology. Under a strict interpretation of the law it is illegal. However, no content creators have fallen foul of the law for similar yet with people have YouTube channels while on tourist and retirement visa. The DTV does throw another spanner in the works though. You can work remotely in Thailand with it. How will they class what you propose? What they do go after is where you are stepping on Thai Toes. Tour guides and driving tourists. Running child daycare centres. Wellness and massage. That is where you see arrests and it being made public as a deterrent. Never seen a content creator among those. This is just my view and what I have observed.

Anonymous participant Exactly. You are promoting Thailand for free and I am sure TAT likes freebies.

E-commerce isn't considered working in Thailand. It's entirely what this visa is aimed at. You just need to show proof of it.
