Can I do a border bounce in Thailand with a passport that is currently in renewal?

Does anyone have experience doing a border bounce using a passport that is in the renewal process? I'm wondering if current pp will show up 'invalid' on the system if I border bounce.

UK passport office is on strike and I only have 30 days left in Thailand. I still have access to my current passport. I don't want to overstay as it will prevent future visa applications.

Any experience or suggestions are welcome.

Cheers!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned about performing a border bounce with a UK passport that is in the renewal process due to the ongoing UK passport office strike. They have access to their current passport but are uncertain if it will show as 'invalid' for international travel. Many commenters advise against traveling internationally with a passport in renewal, noting that it may be cancelled in the system and suggesting applying for an Emergency Travel Document if necessary. They also mention the possibility of complications and fees associated with the cancellation of the passport renewal application.

Also bare in mind that if you now apply for an Emergency travel document, your passport application is cancelled and there is no refund on your paid fees.

You would need to reapply in the UK.

It also now looks likely that the strike is set to escalate at the end of this month.

actually one of the reasons you can apply for an emergency passport is that your current passport is away for renewal so this doesn't sound correct

the reason they cancel is because your passport that you applied for, can only come to Thailand.

If you apply for an ETD, you're not here to collect it, and can't be until you get a new passpprt

The Government website lays it all out for you.

You cannot travel internationally whilst your passport is in the process of renewal.

You would have received confirmation of this in writing from VFS Global or the agent you used.

If you have to leave Thailand you will be able to apply for an Emergency Travel Document (Passport) from the embassy that will allow you to travel back to the UK only.

If you used an agent maybe ask them to chase up the HMPO.

I hope your new PP is sent in time.

I'm in the process of writing an Email to Mark Serwotka head of the PCS Union whose members at the HMPO are taking this industrial action. I'm going along the lines of HRA 1998 Freedom of Movement and Art 8 Rights to private family life being affected by this strike.

the UK emergency passport is not restricted to travel back to the UK. You can travel wherever on it as long as you supply a travel itinerary. One of the reasons to apply for it is your passport is currently being renewed.

thanks, I'll look into it.

the only issue you might have is claiming you "live" here but ask the embassy

It doesn't say anything about where you live in the Government link...there are set criteria but that is not one of them.

"You can use an emergency travel document to travel to your destination through a maximum of 5 countries. You can also normally use it to return to the country you’re applying from if you live there."

If you've already applied for a new UK passport then your passport you have in hand is cancelled in the system for travel

You might have a problem even entering another country to do a border bounce. I assume your passport expires in less than 6 months.
