Is it possible to convert a Smart S visa to a different kind of visa from within the country?
Edit: i'm currently on a covid visa after an education visa. My partner has a retirement/non-o visa but we aren't in a rush to marry.
I got approved for a Smart S visa but on of the team has left the country due to covid. Therefore I amnot sure the future of it past the six months.

TLDR : Answer Summary
It is not straightforward to convert a Smart S visa to a different type of visa from within Thailand. Currently, the individual is on a COVID extension and has previously held an education visa. While possibilities for further visa applications exist, such as enrolling in a legitimate Thai university or applying for a job with a work permit, the Smart S visa's future is uncertain due to personal circumstances and should be addressed with proper authorities. Contacting the Office of the Board of Investment (BOI) for guidance is recommended.

I have until June or so to get the Smart visa. It's individual so it doesn't matter that one person left. But my current visa is until May 16. Kind of worried that if I extend it again it will be too late with the SMART.
sounds like you need to go talk to the BOI people that issue smart visas here in thailand to see if that's the way to go OR if that's a dead end <-meaning after you get it there's no way to extend it :(
