I’m on an O-A visa. Did my 90 day report today in Chiang Mai and went to enquire about changing to a visa for someone married to a Thai.
I was told I need to get another year on O-A before applying for the change. Or at least that’s what I thought he told me.

That is true. If you are on a Non-OA visa, you will need to get at least one extension of stay based on the reason of the visa before you're allowed to change the reason for the extension of stay.
