Hi, I went to book an appointment for my driver's license and Bangkok is booked until late Feb! Is it ok to book elsewhere? Samut Sakhon is convenient for me (my wife works there) and they have availability in December.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The inquiry is about booking a driver's license appointment due to long wait times in Bangkok. It's confirmed that bookings can be made at any Department of Land Transport (DLT) office, including Samut Sakhon, which has availability. However, there are warnings about the validity of licenses obtained in Samut Sakhon when driving outside that province.

You can get your licence in SS, but it will only be valid to drive in SS. There is a microchip in the licence that is a transmitter, and as soon as you exit SS it will send your location to the police, who will then arrest you, take your vehicle and make you walk back to SS.

I went down to chatuchak DLT and they had availability for walk ins to do conversion in 2 days.

Similarly ,the DLT app had greyed out the appointment for this ctr.
