Hi All,

could anyone advise on this pls? :)

I'm Italian and moving to Thailand next month so I'm going to apply for the visa in a couple of weeks. Because of the new regulation I might not be eligible for a 1 year non immigrant type O visa and I might have to apply for a 3 months non immigrant type O visa and then extend it once in Thailand, my question is:

can I apply straight away for the extension once in Thailand or do I have to wait till the expiration?

furthermore how long does it take to get the extension after the application?

Thank everyone who will want to help :)

TLDR : Answer Summary
An Italian expat moving to Thailand is seeking advice on applying for a Non-Immigrant O visa. Due to new regulations, they may need to apply for a 90-day visa initially and then extend it once in Thailand. Key questions include whether they can apply for an extension right after arrival or must wait for the visa to expire, and how long the extension process takes. Community responses clarify that extensions can be applied for after arrival as long as the application is made within certain timeframes, typically requiring a bank balance to qualify for the extension.

Non-O visas are sold only two ways, a 90 day single entry or a year-long, multi-entry (the kind you exit/re-enter every 90 days).

If you are getting a 90 day single entry and then applying for a yearly extension of stay at the immigration office once you get that you'd need to buy a re-entry permit as well. (either a single entry for 1000baht or a multiple entry for 3800baht)

Do you think I can still apply for a 1 year multiple entries? It's a confused information on the embassy website but definitely I'll go to the embassy in London within 2 weeks for applying for 1 year multiple entries (possibly) or 3 months single entry, I'm just waiting for some documents prior

You will need 400k thb in a Thai bank account for 2 months prior to application(in your name). You will get a 30 day consideration stamp, where they approve your extension and then you go back to get the remaining 11 months stamped in to your passport.

I had a 1 year multi entry from the UK. This was extended in Thailand.

-Apply 30 days before admitted until stamp expires.

-Get 30 day consideration stamp.

-Go back on date stamped in your passport to get remaining 11 months stamped.

-Every 90 days report your address.

-If you plan to leave then apply for re-entry permit to avoid losing your extension.

You would be applying for an Extension of Stay based on Marriage

I should not have used the word normally. It is the last 45 days - except some Immigration Offices might insist on the last 30 days

Normally it has to be in the last 45 days

Are you speaking of a Non Imm O Visa for being age 50 or over or for marriage?
