Ive been outside of Thailand for 9months now, last time i was there I stayed for 9months. Will I be able to fly in with no problem ?
Answer summary
The user has been outside of Thailand for 9 months after a previous 9-month stay and inquires about the possibility of re-entering without issues. Responses indicate that re-entry may depend on the specific immigration officer and suggest obtaining a tourist visa to avoid complications. Important considerations include financial proof, onward travel plans, and the nature of past stays to avoid being flagged as a tax resident.

Best to arrive on visa exempt you will be fine possibly to be questioned about previous stay and this stay you will be fine and advised accordingly stay cool
Staying 9 months in the country on your previous visit will be highlighted in the eyes of the immigration officer. You're not a tourist...you're a tax resident. I highly recommend you get at least a proper SETV or METV for your next visit. I wouldn't chance it. I'd also make sure you have the 20,000 THB equivalent in cash and an onward ticket out of the country (even if it's a regional country like Vietnam) to potentially avoid having to return to your country of origin.
If you are coming in from VN and you have been away 9 months I would go for it..its not like you are going to be sent back to the worst place in the World if they refuse you 🙂 just have an onward ticket, hotel booked and 20,000 Baht or equivalent
My boyfriend did the same, even after 7 months outside of Thailand when he gets back in the officer told him that he will need a visa next time. To be safe apply for a tourist visa for your next return. *require your financial proof
It is 100% depending upon the immigration officer you see at the airport. You can maximize your chances by having at least 20,000 Thai baht (or Equivalent in any currency) on your person, And having a return plane ticket on your person, and having verification a hotel reservation for the dates that you will be in Thailand. Also be very polite and cooperative with the immigration officer.
Rene Ordman I did not mention anything about taxes because he was not asking anything about taxes. Whether he is liable for any income tax in Thailand is completely dependent upon his nationality and sources of income. Recommend we pollute this thread with a long discussion about taxes. I am very familiar with the Thailand tax law And how it applies to American citizens, and can discuss it in another forum if you wish
How did you stay 9 months? Visa exempt with extensions is 90 days. So you overstayed by 6 months? Or you stayed 3 separate times with 3 back to back exemptions and extensions? Details matter.
waste of money for a single trip. Might even raise red flags about why you are doing multiple entries when you've already spent so much time in Thailand
irrelevant to this post. This guy spent 9 months in Thailand doing border bounces less than a year ago. That has nothing to do with someone wanting to come for a few months every year
Exactly why so many people are now choosing Vietnam instead. Tourists dont want to play a very costly game of roulette in regard to being allowed entry or not.
you should be ok this time but may get a warning as you max out your visa exempt entries and this will be your second entry within the last 12 months and fourth within the last 18 months. Probably best to get a tourist visa to break your reliance on visa exempts.
