I'm german, over 50, not retired but full-time working in a company. I can take this year a so called "Sabatical" for some months and want go for 3 months to Thailand with a 90 day retirement O visa. Some background infos:

1. I'm over 50

2. Registration certificate and criminal record certificate are no problem and easy to get.

3. In the 3 last months I haven't at any time 800k THB in my bankaccount (there are better ways to invest my money than putting it in a bank account). I also not plan to fill up my bank account and wait 3 more months to meet this requirement

4. Because I'm working I not get retirement money from the government. My regular income in my company is over 135k THB / month (more than the required 65k THB retirement income).

Question: I have heard that instead of the pension statement/proof of income from the government, you can also use the salary statements of the last three months as proof of regular income from the employer. If yes, and someone do it like this can you someone give me more details? Are there some additional paper needed?

I would prefer answers from german guys who tried it in that way (munich/frankfurt?). Because every Thai-Embassy handles it a little bit different. But of course I would appreciate also answers from guys from other european countries who tried it this way.

Thank you :)
Answer summary
The user, a German expat over 50, inquires about obtaining a Non-O retirement visa for a 3-month stay in Thailand while working full-time. They do not wish to demonstrate 800,000 THB in a bank account and instead ask if salary statements from their employer can suffice as proof of income. Comments suggest it is possible, but the requirements may vary by local Thai immigration offices. Alternatives such as a multi-entry tourist visa are also discussed, highlighting that a simpler approach might be to use a visa exemption tactic for only 90 days.

For only three months, you don't a visa and you don't need to do anything. Come in visa exempt for 60 days and extend it by 30 days at any immigration office in Thailand for 1900 baht. If you decide you want to stay longer than 90 days, you must exit the country and return for a new 60 day exemption

If you are smart enough, you can get a DTV based on the "workcation" category. Clue: Set up your own company and start developing your own product. I did and got a DV visa.

Try to apply for a LTR-R Visa via the Board of Investment instead. But for three months, why go through this hassle? Get a two month tourist visa and extend it once.

for a 3-6 month holiday in Thailand, the best and most uncomplicated visa is the 6-months multi entry tourist visa. No police record needed, no mandatory health insurance (you can voluntarily get a Hanse Merkur or ADAC longstay abroad health insurance for 3,4,5 or 6 months). For this visa, you only need three months of account statements of a minimum of 20,000 THB equivalent in your German bank account (that is something like 650.- Euro). The visa fee is 175.- Euro. Every entry within the 6-month visa validity period, gets you stamped in for 60 days. You have the option to buy a 30-days extension for 1900 THB, or do a border bounce and will receive the next 60 days stay permit

OP
Greg Alexander I will look into it. Multi Entry is nice because Laos and Cambodia (which is right now not the best idea) is still on my bucket list, My first plan was to go to these countries after my stay in Thailand - not during my time. I have already a travel insurance for 8 weks at the LVM which I can extend for 4 additonal weeks (alltogether 90 days)

Your post is not clear. Do you want to stay three months in Thailand only or longer?

You may be able to use monthly income for the Non Imm O visa, it's going to depend on your local RTE. You can from the RTE London, which I believe is a minimum £1500 for 3 months

if the specific local Thai Immigration Office does in–country Change of Visa (inside Thailand) and also accepts Embassy Income Certification Letters, then,

since the German Embassy in Bangkok and German Consulates in Thailand still issue Embassy Income Letters, perhaps it is worth investigating where precisely you would be staying inside Thailand and the specific local Thai Immigration Office for that chosen location would accept Embassy Income Letters or not for in–country Thai Visa and Extension of Stay

Unfortunately you are applying for a visa to Thailand. There is no common sence in their approach to your application.

In any case I wish you good luck.

OP
Claus Svensson Thank you. Right, I want only stay 90 days. No further extension and I wanted to avoid the visit at the immigration for an extension of an visa exempt or tourist visa (which also costs 1900 THB). My initial thought was "go for 90 days and avoid any hustle with day at the immigration in Bangkok for a 30 days extension)

If you apply for the Non-OA visa (not a Non-O) in Germany you should be able to use your monthly income, shouldn't matter it's not from a pension. That gets you a 12 month milti entry visa, but you do need insurance, police check etc

he can apply for the Non-O retirement visa using his income, too (minimum 1780.-Euro equivalent 65,000 THB). It is income OR deposit

sure but that only gets him 90 days then he needs 800k baht in a Thai bank account which he says he never has

Frank Kurpiela agreed. This is a valid route to go

yes he has and he can use it for the visa application, and theoretically can use it for the application to the extension. However if he wants to spend only a 90 days holiday, he is cheaper off with a single entry tourist visa, and actually atm with a visa exempt entry, as the application to the Non-O visa is 70.- Euros. The advantage is if he has a Non-O visa or a single entry tourist visa, the airline will not require an onward travel proof

he has the income, read his post

if he doesn't have that money neither in a German bank account nor in a Thai bank account, it is needless to tell him to apply for the O/A or O visa unless he can prove income of more than 65,000 THB. I guess he confuses a few things, reading his post

@Frank *********
there are a variety of different visas appropriate for people over the age of 50, perhaps 6 different ones. But the Non-O and the Non-OA are the 2 main ones. Other than insurance, police check etc the main difference is that with the Non-OA you don't need to prove any finances inside Thailand. Finances in your home country are good

As far as I know, just checked immigration, for the 65k per month you need 12.month proof of income. There might be officers who not look at it, but never take a gamble here!

Fred Wijnands That's for the 1 year extension of stay in Thailand. The OP wants a Non O visa from outside Thailand

Steve Greir yeah....it's confusing. Still, I read it from the immigration site.
