Hi All, Bit of a read, hope it helps

Just a update to explain the difference between doing your homework and reality in Thailand and how it can so easily go wrong if you don't persist.

Applied for my Non O with the intention of retirement from my home country, Evisa app, No issues.

However flight day quickly approached and still processing,

Flight day, flew to BKK, on arrival quickly checked emails, Nothing.

Entered the kingdom Visa exempt.

One day later received confirmation Non O approved. Okay I'll have a holiday in Bangkok for a month head to Udon Thani where I have a home, Pop over to Lao, for a few days and activate my Non O on the way back in,

Did it, No problem at all, Stamped in for 90 days.

Couple days to get my bearings then Im off to open my bank account for my 12 month extension in 80 days time,

Heard one of the K banks were expat friendly and they have a great english app.

Went to the nearest branch with everything required to be to be told, Sorry, you not have retirement visa.

Thought Omg am I gonna be deported,

Went to Immigration to confirm everything was sweet and the IO confirmed No problem

Next day went to a larger branch same bank, Sorry we cannot accept your secondary form of identification. Now I'm really starting to worry. Left the bank pretty stressed by this stage.

Looked online and suddenly noticed that the residence certificate can be used as proof of Address, Identity and Visa status

Returned to the initial branch, used translator to calmly explain my findings to the customer support officer, he looked it up, He spoke to a colleague and APPROVED.

As they say in Thailand,

KEEP FIGHTING ๐Ÿ™
Answer summary
The post outlines the author's challenging experience in obtaining a Non-O visa for retirement in Thailand. Initially approved via an eVisa application, the author encountered issues when trying to open a bank account due to not having the retirement visa physically on hand. After several stressful interactions with different bank branches and immigration officers, the author discovered that a residence certificate could serve as proof of address, identity, and visa status, which eventually led to approval for the bank account. The narrative emphasizes the importance of persistence and being well-informed about the requirements in Thailand.

That's just the thing - IF you have a visa 99% of the time they won't ask questions or give you a hard time. I don't know why this is shocking to many. ๐Ÿ‘€

Oh but don't forget it's a 5 year visa and you need to be attending your soft power course for the whole 5 years or they might not let you back in hahahaha

Who actually cares? You have a visa, it's valid, they let you in. It's usually that how it works

6 times for me and not one question. I just hand in my passport and visa. The TDAC shows on the screen once they scan your passport, as does your visa, but there have been a few reports of lazy IOs stamping DTVers in visa-exempt, so it's best to hand your visa in as well. I haven't bothered with the boarding pass since TDAC came in, and they never ask for it. Always check your date stamp before you leave the passport area.

Ive been in and out of Thailand about 8 times since they introduced dtac, they have never once asked to see it. Its linked to your passport so they can see it as soon as they swipe your passport. I have it saved on my phone but never taken it out my pocket

"or entering with a Thai national." tell me what you mean? I enter with a Thai national on a DTV and I have not seen this special line. Genuinely curious as to what you are talking about?

I understand that they go through a different line, but I never ever heard anyone say that they can take their partner with them. Further I will say that when I went to Malaysia she wanted me to stand in her line and Malaysia told me to go to the USA line. I know you are going to say well that is Malaysia. I just don't see any evidence that I could go with her to the Thai line at BKK/DMK, has anyone else done this?

Thai do not enter through the same lines as non-Thai, and they take their company with them.

I have the same experience. I do have my DTV workation visa since June 2025. Since then I travelled almost 15 times in/out the country. Never ever had any issues. Immigration offivers were always nice, friendly, no questions - just stamped.
