I have few questions related to Non O initial visa.

Currently i’m on visa free and it expires on aug 09 (extended to 30days).

Planning to get married on july 16. And have travel plans from Bangkok to japan on july 22 and then to Vietnam on july 30. In order to apply for Non O initial 90 days, can i apply from Vietnam? Or need to travel to laos? As many people apply from laos using agents. Which way is best?

Also for the initial non o visa for marriage for the 90 days, do i need the 400k thb in foreign bank or it’s only for the extension like after receiving the non o initial? Can i apply the income route for initial or need any certificate for that? or can show some funds in foreign bank for initial? And also for extension transfer the 40k thb every month to thai bank after i get non o?
Answer summary
The user inquired about applying for a Non-O initial visa from Vietnam after their marriage. They needed clarity on the application process, the necessity of showing 400,000 THB in a foreign bank account for the initial visa, and whether they could use an income route for the application. Comments from the community suggested that it is possible to apply from Vietnam, with many recommending doing so in Hanoi through local agents. However, they warned that some immigration offices might require the marriage to be at least a few months old before approving the visa or extensions. There are also specific monetary requirements, indicating that the 400,000 THB is needed for the initial visa if applying from outside Thailand.

You can apply in Hanoi, there are many agents there, too.

Many local Thai Immigration Offices inside Thailand will not consider or accept newlywed Non–O Visa based on Marriage to Thai Spouse or Extension of Stay based on Marriage to Thai Spouse until Married for a couple months or more

As for Thai Embassies or Thai Consulates outside Thailand for a Non–O E–Visa based on Marriage to a Thai Spouse, would definitely try to directly contact and confirm with the specific Thai Embassy/Thai Consulate beforehand whether they have any specific requirements for minimum time to be Married or not and accept newlywed Non–O E–Visa Applications or need to Married for a couple months or more

Shiva Vangari just three days ago there was a report in a visa related group that a newly-wed guy applied for the one-year extension of stay based on being married to a Thai wife, and was rejected by Immigration because his marriage was less than three months old. You should ask the Immigration office where you intend to apply, on how they will treat your case

Andreas Mueller the maths doesn’t seem right on that one. If they got married and applied for non-O then came to Thailand and around 90 days they applied for extension. I don’t know how they could be married for less than 3 months.

You can apply in Vietnam for the initial 90 day Non-O based on marriage by showing 400k baht in your home bank. When you get to Thailand you'll need to open a bank account and put 400k baht in it, when it's been in the account for 2 months you can apply for the extension of stay based on marriage. You can't use 12 months of 40k transfers from overseas for that first extension, and depending on your immigration office policy you might never be able to use them. An increasing number of immigration offices will only allow that 40k baht if it is from income earned inside Thailand so ask them what their policy is when you go to pick up their list of requirements prior to applying for that 12 months extension of stay, every immigration office can be slightly different so be sure to get the list from the office you will actually use.

400k thb is needed to show for initial 90 days if applying online from outside Thailand?

Shiva Vangari yes I believe so. You can get help from an agent for the deposit and you are tied to them until you have a year of the full deposit in your bank and if they audit you, you are ######.
