Answer summary
Yes, you can apply for a Non-O retirement visa at the Thai Embassy in England before returning to Thailand. Upon arrival in Thailand, you will receive a 90-day stay, during which you need to open a bank account and deposit 800,000 baht. This amount must be in the account for at least 2 months before you can apply for a 12-month extension of stay. Note that the Non-O visa does not require insurance, unlike the Non-OA visa.

You can apply for a non o visa at the Thai Embassy in your own country which allows you to open a Thai bank account as soon as you land in Thailand

If you eventually want to go to Bt65k a month, then start sending as soon as you have an account. Choose a date in the beginning of the month, allowing you time to fix things if it goes wrong before you hit the end of the month.

I have bank accounts for 25+ years and I send more than Bt65k a month but I'm just doing the retirement O visa now.

Yes, get the 90 day non-O (not non-OA) in England before coming to Thailand and then extend it for 12 months when in Thailand. The non-OA is much less popular and involves mandatory insurance from a limited number of companies.

Stuart Chiverton I got the non OA. Insurance cost me about £180 - can be done online with AXA

Audrey Gray as soon as you go from the visa to the Extension of stay, if you have started on the Non-O/A you will need the 800,000 THB minimum in a Thai (!!) bank account, and a private tgia-listed Thai health insurance. That's why it is always better to start on the Non-Imm-O Retirement Visa, because you keep the free choice regarding the health insurance

Audrey Gray Not saying you can't get the OA, it suits some people, depending on their circumstances. It limits the insurance companies you can use and requires extra checks, so most people use the non-O instead. Some people wrongly think the non-OA is the only visa you can get outside Thailand, which is why I said they should get the non-O.

Audrey Gray But the other visa is easier, no insurance, no police check, why make life difficult and forever difficult ?

You get 90 days with a Non-O when you enter Thailand but you need to open a bank account and deposit the 800k baht fairly quickly as it has to be in place for 2 months before you can apply for the 12 month extension of stay

up to you as they say. A Non-OA visa is a 12 month visa and every entry in that 12 months gets you stamped in for 12 months or the duration of your insurance, whichever comes first. But it needs insurance, medical certificate and police checks. The Non-O visa is a 90 day visa and requires none of those

I always thought that those that messed up their seasoning or something else and got rejected for the one year extension. If they went to Laos to apply for a new non o they could use their Thai bank account
