TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation revolves around the possibility of applying for a Japan tourist visa while holding a DTV visa in Thailand. Users have confirmed that it is indeed possible to apply for the Japanese visa from Bangkok as a DTV holder. However, there are nuances regarding residency and documentation that may affect the application, such as the need to demonstrate some form of residency in Thailand (e.g., a TM30 form or utility bills). Importantly, the requirements may vary, with some users indicating that Japan does not impose residency duration restrictions for its tourist visa application unlike other countries.

Its you passport that is the important travel document.

Many countries don't need a visa to enter Japan for differing periods. If you are from a country on the list you can just travel

Yes you can apply 💯. Korea visa needs at least 2 years residency. Japan doesn’t have any restrictions.

Yes, absolutely fine. We applied here for Japanese visas as DTV holders

I think you can proof some kind of residency with a TM30 or a Thai Driving License if you have one

What he possibly means is could he apply for tourist visa at the Japan embassy in Bangkok. As he is not a local/permanent resident/work permit holder, would the embassy even accept his application

The other posters don’t seem to know what you mean but you’re essentially asking because Japan requires tourist visa applications be made from ones country of residence OR citizenship and whether the Japanese Embassy will consider you resident for that purpose.

It’s a long term visa so, according to the rules and if you can submit a tenancy agreement and utility bills, you’ll meet the conditions.

yeap, a lot of "knowledge people" with zero experience about the matter comments their wild guessing. I bet they don't even need a visa for Japan, so they won't even understand why the OP is asking.

DTV visa means nothing applying for other countries.

GorgeousJaguar5860 you sure? it's wild if you're just guessing with any previous experience or knowledge from the matter. Some countries ask that you have a Thailand visa in order to get visas for those countries IF applying from Thailand.
