Has anyone applied DTV through Japan? I m in Japan on visit visa and thinking to apply DTV for Thai. Is it possible ?
Answer summary
A user in Japan is considering applying for a DTV visa for Thailand while on a visit visa. The conversation reveals concerns regarding the transition from a marriage visa and potential issues at immigration. Comments highlight that switching to a tourist visa from a longer-term visa may raise red flags with immigration, especially after several years of residing in Thailand. Several users recommend alternatives like a retirement or education visa to maintain legal residency in Thailand. The overall sentiment suggests caution regarding the visa application process and the importance of choosing the right type of visa depending on individual circumstances.

Yes mine expired when i was working on ship and came in on tourist visa. They did ask me why no visa. I had valid excuse expired when out of country working.
They got all your records on screen in front of them
BreathtakingReindeer1677 when your visa extension is up for renewal, change it to retirement extension, just remember to have 800k in your own bank account two months before applying.
The odds of being allowed back in with your history is close to none. This will count in their system has inside Thailand for several years, than suddenly switch to tourist visa which will not go well with immigration officer. This is exactly the kind of history that they are cracking down on. Tourist visa and Visa exempt hold the same value. You do not increase your odds with a tourist visa. My advice is to come back in with fast track with agent, which will guaranteed entry. How old are you?
Sujy Sujaree they are cracking on repeated exempt entries, called visa runs. Not on people who had a proper visa for years and need to enter to sort things out or divorce.
BreathtakingReindeer1677 fair enough but then what's your plan? If you want to stay in Thailand it would probably be easier just to switch to an extension for another reason if you can meet the criteria
BreathtakingReindeer1677 you won't get a 1 year ED visa other than through a university. For a language school you get 90 days at a time but have to meet the studying requirements
i am thinking to do a one year ED visa to not be dependent on my wife. I have talked to the school, they said i need to exit Thailand and re-enter on a tourist visa anyway. That's why i am asking here.
True that we don't see a case like this often (many years on marriage visa than going back to tourist visa), but I don't see this going well at immigration. But let's see.
his situation is very different to those doing back to back border/visa bounces. I don't believe he'll have a problem the 1st time but after that he would need to be on a proper visa
It will not be okay for him to get back in. You are usually accurate with such advice. He has several years of staying in Thailand and now suddenly switching to tourist visa. They will quiz him to death at airport and he will be denied almost every time.
