TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you can apply for a 90-day Non-O (retirement) visa in Thailand upon arrival if you meet the financial requirements and have all necessary documentation. It's important to have the required funds in a Thai bank account, as immigration offices often want to see money transferred from overseas, with some offices requiring it to be in the bank for at least two months. Be aware that applying for this change in visa type may forfeit the remaining time on your initial entry stamp.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
  • Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.

Yes. And many other ways work too.

What I strongly advise against is using an agent to get around the 800k requirement!

What's the problem with using an agent?

@Chris *****
Once you start using an agent to fake the money in bank, you can’t go back.

Mind you, I didn’t say anything about letting an agent do the paperwork. I wouldn’t pay for that but some ppl just can’t do it, so they need to pay for it.

But getting around the requirements by letting an agent bribe the officer is just dumb. There will be no record of your money anywhere (the immigration takes the bank statements for a reason).

@Robert *******
For me I am too young for the retirement visa but I will want it eventually so will just save up until then.
Robert ********
@Chris *****
Good plan. 800k isn’t that much anyway.

And should you get married to a Thai, then it’s 400k only (and hopefully she will have a good job to contribute).
Chris ******
@Robert *******
Already married to a non-thai so looks like we will have to save some dough.
Robert ********
@Chris *****
yup. 2x

If you don’t have 65k each month (per person), that is. And if you go for that, make sure that the worst exchange rate won’t break your plans.

I once said that we need twice the minimum and ppl laughed. Then the the baht rose and they had to leave.
Chris ******
@Robert *******
So if you make 65k baht a month or more you still need the 800k or need both?
Robert ********
@Chris *****
One of the two.

@Robert *******
Ok will same some dough aside as I have a while to go before I hit 50 anyways.

No

Depends how organised you are. You need to show money in a Thai bank and most immigration offices want to see that transferred from overseas. There's also a couple of offices that want to see that the money has been in the bank for 2 months before you apply. Other than that you're going to have some sort of long term accommodation sorted, it can be a hotel as long as you can show your booked for a few months

You can apply for a 90 days Non O visa in country if you arrive on a visa exemption or tourist visa if you fulfil the requirements and have minimum 14-21 days left on your stamp.

You’re biggest issue is to open a bank account for banking the required funds, unless your embassy still offers to give you an affidavit letter regarding income.

|British Embassy doesn't do it anymore

@Ka ****
No, the easiest thing is really to apply for a 90 days Non O online at home before you come if that’s an option. Then you can use income or funds, and you’ll do everything more easy for yourself and just can prepare for the one year extension of stay within 90 days if that’s what you plan to do.

in UK they are hopeless. Don't answer calls. I will try to go through their application, but we will see

If you already have the required money in the bank on the day you arrive, and have all the required documents and money ready, you can go to your immigration office any day you'd like. Because you're changing to a different type (tourist to non-immigrant) you'll forfeit the remaining time on your entry stamp.
Mike *****
@Brandon ***********
The money in the bank needs to have been there for the required amount of time (*aka seasoned).

Isn't that 6 months?
Bill ********
@Mike ****
how much money has to be in Thai bank account. ??
Stuart *********
@Mike ****
Not to apply for an in country Non O. For almost every office that only needs to have been in for 1 day. Some require to see that it’s an international transfer.

Jomtien require it seasoned for 2 months prior to application.
Brandon ************
@Mike ****
to apply for conversion to non-O visa there is no seasoning. Only Pattaya requires that and it's 2 months, not 6.

Every other office you just need to show the money. It's the extension that requires 2 months seasoning
