Hello everyone. Does a person has to apply for a Thai E-visa (TR) with the Thai embassy in the country where they are currently in and from which they will travel to Thailand, or can they apply it with the Thai embassy in their own country?
I am actually asking this for two of my friends. They are Chinese citizens currently in the UK on short term visas. Due to the so-called zero-covid policy of China, it is extremely difficult and expensive for Chinese people to repatriate now, especially from the UK. I am helping them to apply for E-visa of Thailand now, but the first page of the e-visa application asks about their Permanent Residency / Current Location. Their current location is the UK, but they are on short-term visa to the UK, so they don't have the state of residency in the UK , because it is explained on that website that permanent residency means "Your resident status in a country of which you are granted a residence visa to stay for more than six months". So can I put the UK there, or China, or they are simply not eligible to apply for a E-visa in this situation?
Thank you very much in advance.
TLDR : Answer Summary
Chinese citizens currently in the UK can apply for a Thai E-visa (TR) either through the Thai embassy in the UK or from their home country. However, the E-visa application requires them to indicate their current location and residency status, which could be problematic since they are on short-term visas without permanent residency status in the UK. It may be advisable to indicate their current location as the UK for the application, but the outcome may vary, and they should proceed with the application in whichever embassy they choose.
