TLDR : Answer Summary
A retired Canadian living in Vietnam is seeking advice on visa options suitable for a 6-month stay in Thailand. It's noted that visa types can be found on the Thai embassy's website in Vietnam and that it may be possible to enter Thailand without a visa and extend it later. However, a certificate of entry and other specific requirements must be fulfilled as outlined by the embassy.

Visa options are listed on the Thai embassy website in Vietnam. Or You can go without visa and get extensions in-country. But you do need a certificate of entry, and some other requirements which the embassy lists.
