TLDR : Answer Summary
A US citizen on a tourist visa who wants to change to a Thai spouse visa (NON-O) may face challenges doing so in Thailand, as the local immigration offices may require him to return to the US for processing. However, he may inquire about changing his visa in a nearby country with a Thai embassy or consulate, such as Laos or Malaysia, which often have less hassle for visa matters. It's advisable to check specific embassy requirements in those countries before attempting the visa change.
