Hello everybody!

I want to enter Thailand on a visa, get married at Ampur, register the marrige in Thailand and then change my visa to (Spouse visa) NON-O.

What visa should I use when I arrive in Thailand, that makes this possible?

TLDR : Answer Summary
To get married in Thailand and subsequently apply for a NON-O Spouse visa, entering on a standard 60-day visa exemption or a tourist visa is appropriate. There's no specific visa required for marriage, and most tourists can complete the marriage registration without complications. After marriage, if looking to change to a NON-O visa, ensure compliance with requirements such as maintaining a bank account with the necessary funds, and be aware of the processing times to smoothly transition to a long-term stay.
NON-O RETIREMENT VISA RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Go to the Retirement Visa Section for information on requirements, including age restrictions, financial requirements, and necessary documentation.
  • For immediate assistance, contact Thai Visa Centre directly via LINE at @ThaiVisaCentre or Email them.
  • Explore recent discussions by using the Non-O Retirement Visa tag in the search box at the top of the page.
  • Join the Thai Visa Advice Facebook Group to ask your questions, and get advice from others.

Listen to Brandon who actually answered your question and ignore all the ‘extra’ advice as the majority is not entirely correct and extraneous to your needs

Good luck and congratulations 😀

If you meet all of the qualifications for the Non-O 90 day visa, you should be able to apply in country after you're married and registered., and then the extension after you've left 400,000 baht in a Thai bank account for 60 days.

To get married in Thailand, you can come in on the standard 60-day visa exemption like most other tourists.

If you run into problems applying for the 90-day in Thailand after you are married, you may need to see an agent to help the process.

Worst case, you may need to make a border run to a neighboring country, then apply for the 90-day Non O after you're married via the E-Visa website or an agent. Wait until approval (up to 15-20 days max), then cross back over to Thailand open a bank account, deposit 400,000 baht in the bank, wait 60 days, then apply for the 1-year Non-O marriage visa

I think the OP can use the Embassy affidavit so the bank account is not needed up front

Thank you! I was only wondering, so that I don't enter Thailand with a Visa that I can't change on sight to NON-O and then be staying long term with my future wife, on my new NON-O visa.

Pass (gyldig svensk pass)

"Affirmation of freedom to marry" – et erklæringsbrev som du må skrive og signere på den svenske ambassaden i Bangkok

Oversettelse til thai av nødvendige dokumenter (må gjøres hos et godkjent oversettelsesbyrå i Thailand)

Legalisering av oversettelsene hos det thailandske utenriksdepartementet (MFA) i Bangkok, bestiller time her
*********************************************

You will need a long term visa rather than a tourist visa so that you can open a bank account and season your money.

inside Thailand you can not get the type O visa extension without having bt400,000 in your Thai bank account first, and you can not get a Thai bank account on any tourist entry. How are you going to get your Thai bank account in order to get your type O visa extension after you are married? You must have the type O visa extension in order to get your bank account. You can not get one with just your marriage documents, and on a tourist entry.

Yes if you have a NON-O visa you certainly can open a bank account. But until you get that visa, opening a Thai banl account will be impossible. And you need to season your money in a bank account to be able to get your NON-O visa. Catch 22. Your plan will not work. I suggest that you get a long term visa before you come to Thailand. With this, you cam then open a bamk account.

I'm not an expert, but this seems quite a complicated thing to do. Are you of retirement age as that might help. Do you plan to get the non O before coming to Thailand, if so you can use money from Sweden. If not and as Paul said, your problem is going to be opening a bank account. To get the non O based on marriage when inside Thailand will require you to have a bank account with 400,000 baht. There might be a better way, but you might be better coming visa exempt for 60 days (you can extend this by 30 days if necessary), get married. Fly to a neighbouring country to apply for the non O based on marriage. Return to Thailand, open bank account, deposit money and 2 months later extend your stay for a year based on marriage. I hope there's an easier way, but that's my thoughts. The reason I suggested retirement non O at the start is that's an easy visa to get and you could use it and the first extension to get everything sorted, then swith to a marriage extension 15 months later. Good luck.

You don't have to be on any specific visa to get married. Enter Thailand as a tourist and get married.

That is how I got legally married in Thai in 2003. It was then 30 days visa exemption.

More important, that legal marriage in Thai played a big role in everything that followed (moving the family to Japan), now yellow book atop of family's blue book in the condo I own.

Complicated it gets but much easier than if the marriage had occurred outside of Thai. Wife did not change her name.

Yes, but thats not my worry. I need to be able to change my first visa to NON-O, so that I can remain long term directly in the country.

if you want to change to a Non-O visa inside Thailand you basically have to enter on a tourist visa but be aware that you most likely have to be married for at least 2 months before you can do so and also need a minimum of 15 days (21 in some places) on your current stamp to do so
