Hi, Asking for a friend. UK citizen Currently in Thailand on 60 day SETV. Wants to stay another 30 days but wants to spend a week in vietnam. Plans to leave on the last day he is stamped in and re Enter on visa exemption after a week in vietnam. He will then fly back to UK 3 weeks later. Should be straightforward. His query after reading lots online is that he has had 5 visa exemptions in the last 12 months. 3 separate holidays in November last year and Feb/Mar and May/June this year. Is he ok to fly back into BKK or DM do you think ?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A UK citizen currently in Thailand on a 60-day SETV seeks to spend a week in Vietnam before returning to Thailand on a visa exemption. Concerns arise due to having a history of five visa exemptions in the past 12 months, raising doubts about the ability to re-enter Thailand without issues. Community responses highlight the uncertainty of entry given the frequent visa exemption usage, suggesting that there may be a high risk of denied entry along with the need for adequate documentation such as proof of funds and ongoing travel plans.

these post where people post previous entry history and then ask if they will have problems entering again are losers from the get go.

NO one on this group can tell you whether you'll skate thru, get pulled aside and grilled OR get denied entry.

Be prepared and hope for the best

NOPE....Not wise to do it. High risk of denied entry with his history.

Has he used the land border entries into Thailand in 2019 without a visa?

nope. Forget Vietnam. Stay low profile. Avoid airports.

Thanks James. He did want to go to Vietnam for a week rather than a quick in and out . Is this practical do you think ?

Thanks James. So would the advice be to do a land border entry rather than fly in ?
James ********
Brian Edgington then he could do a border run which gives him 30 days plus can have it extended at local Thai Immigration for added 30 days...fee 1,900 Thai baht for the extension. He can do this two times in a calendar year.

He has never used a land border entry

be prepared with the proof of funds, accommodation and onward travel. With about 10 months of holiday inside Thailand during the last year the chance of getting questions is big.

Thanks Robert. You are right about the number of Visa exemptions but not that he has spent 10 months in Thailand this year . Will still be about 5 months though so I certainly take your point. Thanks again

5 visa exempt and a tourist visa plus extension is what you mentioned. You do not have to convince me but he has to convince the Immigration Officer.

Sorry if it wasn’t clear. He had 1 month in Thailand Feb/Mar and 1 month in June but went out and back on both trips. This time he is there on the 60day SETV and wants to have a week in Vietnam and come back for the remaining 3 weeks
