TLDR : Answer Summary
For a 55-year-old expat earning 4000 USD a month, the recommended visa is the Non-O visa, which is available for retirees. You can apply for a 90-day Non-O visa before arriving. After arrival, you will need to open a Thai bank account to deposit 800,000 baht for at least six months to apply for a 12-month extension. However, if you can demonstrate a stable income of 400,000 baht monthly, you may not need to tie up your funds in a Thai bank account.

A Visa Credit as opposed to Debit as it offers better protection.

Retirement visa, you can come on a tourist visa. If you go to Pattaya their are agencies that can get your O visa without ripping you off, if you can prove income or have the

Chase also offers one that refunds ATM's too.

Watch Cal on YouTube, he posted a video about taxation in Thailand and how to establish a Thai bank account. His tax guy advises keeping monies you transfer to Thailand separate based on where the money came from; I.E. SS or military disability.

Nicholas Curd arh ok then your best option is to get a non o over 50, 90 day retirement visa in your home country before you leave for thailand you can use the funds in your own country bank account in your own currency. This enables you to open a thai bank account as soon as you enter to deposit the 800kbaht funds for your extension of stay. You can't get a bank account without arriving with a non o and you wont get your extension without the thai bank account

He doesn’t need the 800k baht if he has 400k a month income. Why would anyone want to tie up $25, 000 dollars in a thai bank if you don’t have to?
