I’m currently on a 60 day visa exempt entry and this is my 2nd 60 day exempt entry as back in early February while on my 1st 60 day… I received a 30 day extension…my 60 days is up May 17/26…I’m understanding I can goto Vietnam for a few days and goto Thailand 🇹🇭 immigration in Vietnam to get a tourist visa??

Can someone tell me what’s needed for a tourist visa or is there an easier way??….if possible

Thanks in advance

I’m from Canada
Answer summary
The individual is currently on their second 60-day visa exempt entry and is seeking advice on how to extend their stay in Thailand without overstaying. They are considering going to Vietnam to apply for a tourist visa, but commenters provided mixed insights on the feasibility of that approach. Some advised exploring other visa types like a Non-O visa for longer stays, while others highlighted the importance of complying with Thai immigration regulations and the potential difficulties in obtaining another extension or entry based on their travel history.

One can not fly to most countries if one’s passport like mine has less than six months to expiry.

My only route back to London was flying direct which I did using Thai Air from Bangkok.

You apply for an e-visa on the Thai website and keep in mind having a visa doesn’t guarantee entry but it’s better than trying without

How much longer do you plan on staying you could get a single entry 60 day tourist visa on line or a 6 month multiple entry on line the 6 mouth multiple entry tourist visa allows you to stop 60 days at a time.

Why don't you bite the bullet and get a non O 90 day visa on line this can be extended to 12 months ,there are ways around having the 800,000bht by using an agent.

Ive been reading the comments. MMMMM Interesting. So im planning on visiting Thailand next year. April 1st. Itinerary - Bangkok, Pattaya, Kanchanaburi, Phuket, Hat Yai = 60 days. Train to Pedang Besar (Malaysia) 1 day. Return to Bangkok by train hop on - hop off on the way. Train to Chiang Mai again hop 0n - hop off. = 60 days plus 30-day extension to see anything sth. Exit Bangkok. Total 150 days AS A TOURIST. It that ok ???

These are exempt with extensions are only good for about 157 days a year and I think you're at that. So you got to go home and apply for a proper Visa

Why not just do the easy thing and get a non-o?

I assume you mean Thai Embassy in Vietnam

In any case, any actual determination of whether you are allowed into Thailand based on the Immigration officer and on their assessment of your travel history, plans while in Thailand and whether they consider you a true tourist

If not, be ready to be denied entry

Look at your other visa options on the Thai Embassy website

Dave Allen Will Thai embassies even give visas anymore ? Wouldn't they just direct someone to the Thai E-visa site ?

OP

go to Vietnam or another nearby country and apply for a 90 day Non-O visa then you can extend your "vacation" for as long as you want as long as you meet the criteria

Wayne Dunphy okay , just be aware Immigration Officers are taking closer scrutiny of entry requests , so certain details which in the past were not as much an issue , can now cause denial of entry. Be aware and consider your other visa options for entry ,not as a tourist

and was told I can’t get another 30 extension because I had a 30 extension already in my last 60 exempt visit…only 1 extension given in 1 year…immigration told her he can goto Vietnam and stay 7 days and comeback on a tourist visa??

I’m just looking to extend my vacation another 30 days..if not going to Vietnam is it better to go cross border run??

@Wayne *******
If you only want 30 more days, just use a border bounce agency that will drive you to Laos and make sure you can get out and back without any issues.

If you're in Bangkok. Thai Visa Service has a good reputation

Now visas are almost all online. Actually it makes you wait more time compared to the time you could visist an embassy or a consulate and have your visa the next day. That being said, you can still get flagged by the immigration officer if they don't like your travel patterns.

He very careful when trying to come back to Thailand I got flagged when I came back from Indonesia the immigration police stop me and I had to sit down and talk with them I have been currently working on my DTV when I had left but when I came back they almost never let me come through they are getting very strict on this now

Why are you trying to live in Thailand without the appropriate visa?

David Eagle What part of "go to Thailand 🇹🇭 immigration (he meant Embassy) in Vietnam to GET A TOURIST VISA ??" is unclear to you ?

Wayne Dunphy It appears you're definitely abusing the system. An example of the type of people that Thailand is trying to get control over.

I'm sorry but more than half a year living inside Thailand is not a vacation

Steve Neou This is true.

Whether or not Thailand is planning to upgrade its systems to find these (non-(?)) tourists and try to collect said income tax is somewhat questionable, but if they do, I expect that to be quite a bit into the future.

For practical(?) reasons, I believe they mostly care about the big fish. Expats, overall, are small potatoes.

I believe many expats, living in Thailand, are paying ZERO attention to this rule/law - possibly to their peril, but,,,,,,,

Richard Ramsey Consider a vacation anything you want. It's what Thai immigration considers one that matters.

@Richard *******
you can call it whatever you want but the simple fact is that visa exempt and tourist visas are designed for short term tourism they are not meant for extended stays. There are many visa options available specifically designed for extended stays

Richard Ramsey because living in Thailand more than 6 months makes you a tax resident.
Jay ************

Richard Ramsey, yeah, I get tired of these people saying you are living in Thailand if you want to stay there for five months. I want to get away from where I live and enjoy the food, enjoy the warm weather, and travel around the country. Come in for a few months, leave for a month to Vietnam, the Philippines, or Malaysia, and come back for two more months before I go home for six months or so.

@John *********
why isn’t it? If someone has the time and money to stay one place that they like for an extended period of time more than two weeks (that people consider a vacation) why isn’t that considered a vacation?
John **********

I'm not sure a tourist visa will be a huge benefit to you, there's not a huge difference between visa exempt and a tourist visa. You'd be safer flying back and paying a safe entry service.

There's no Thai immigration in Vietnam. The visas are applied for online through the embassy

Lynnette Munoz 🤔

Thailand has official diplomatic missions in Vietnam that handle visa and immigration services Thai citizens and foreigners.

The primary location for visa applications is the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Ho Chi Minh City.

The Thai Embassy is in Hanoi.
