Can you apply for a Thailand DTV from a country where you're not a permanent resident?
My girlfriend is a Mexican citizen currently living in Vancouver, Canada.
She recently graduated and applied for her Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) before her study permit expired. Her application is still pending, so she's currently on maintained status in Canada.
We're hoping to apply for her Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) through the Thai Consulate in Vancouver.
I actually called the Thai Consulate in Vancouver twice. The first time, a man answered and told me that she could apply from Canada despite not being a permanent resident.
However, when I called again, a woman answered and said she wasn't sure and that I would need to email them for clarification.
The problem is that they take forever to respond to emails, so I'm hoping someone here has firsthand experience.
My questions are:
1. Do you need to be a permanent resident of the country you're applying from, or is legal temporary residence enough?
2. Has anyone successfully applied for a DTV while on a student permit, work permit, or maintained status in another country?
3. Has anyone applied through the Vancouver consulate in a similar situation?
Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who's been through this, especially with the Vancouver consulate!
