New York consulate 👎

I am only visiting NYC for 1 month for work.

I am British, but I have a Nevada DL. I asked if I can use it. I no longer live at the address on the DL, however. I’ll edit the post when I get a reply.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A British citizen, currently in New York for work, is inquiring about using a Nevada driver's license to apply for a Thai visa while not residing at the address on the license. Comments suggest confirming proof of residency and applying online, indicating procedures at different Thai consulates and offering advice on residency issues.

A friend (not sure if that matters - us citizen) of mine got approved for DTV in New York. She only showed an Airbnb reservation in New York for 1 month.

I’m confused…

Why is a British guy trying get an American visa in my country for Thailand? 😂😂

@Frank ********
you are indeed confused. He doesn't want an American visa at all.

Why not apply through LA consulate since your proof of residency is NV? It should not matter you are sitting in a hotel a in NY doing that application online.

@Sean ********
Ah. Ok. Thanks. So apply online, no need to physically go to LA?

You might be able to fly to South Dakota, stay in a hotel and open a mailing address and get residency and thus a new U.S. residency and DL.

That would be 100% legal under SD law. At least for us citizens. Not sure if it would work the same for UK citizens but since you have a NV license I would guess it would work.

I had to fill in an ESTA with an address in USA.

So you're living in NY so applied there? You must have something shows a location there.
Brandon ************
Don't ask the embassy. Of course they'll say no if you tell them you don't live there. That's the entire point, is you proving the address you live at. You should just apply and give them the proof you have. They have no way to verify.

Thanks. I’ll be in NY for a month, but it might cut it too close.

@Chris ****
not really a concern. Even if you apply while you're there and then have to leave, they'll still process it and send it to you. Even if you have to enter Thailand visa exempt and then wait for the visa, you can just do a border bounce after your entry stamp is running out and switch / active the new visa.

brilliant mate, thank you! I assumed it was a physical stamp
Brandon ************
@Chris ****
no, only if you have to go in person. In the US all of the Thai embassies use e-visa now, so your visa we'll be a pdf delivered by email.
John *******
Where do you live now?

Bangkok

@Chris ****
then you cannot apply in the US. You apply through the embassy where you physically are. There is no Thai embassy in Thailand and you specifically cannot apply for DTV while in Thailand. You need to go to a Thai embassy in a neighboring country and apply. Someone received their DTV from Cambodia already, I believe Penang Malaysia as well.

@Chris ****
so you're trying to apply from BKK by pretending you're in NY? 🤷
