TLDR : Answer Summary
A UK passport holder seeking to apply for a Thai visa from Dubai faces confusion regarding residency requirements for in-person applications at the Thai Embassy. While in-person applications typically require UAE residency, there is uncertainty about the possibility of applying as a non-resident. Users inquired whether online applications are necessary for non-residents, highlighting the differing visa application processes based on nationality or residency.

Just a little confusing…some country’s you can apply as non resident and others you can’t…so just asking advice. Not criticism!

if the country you are currently in only allows applications from residents and you are not then you need to travel to another country that allows applications from non-residents and apply from there

it can be confusing as each embassy differs in their application rules. Top embassies near you to apply for in terms of ease, friendliness Taipei, Jakarta, HCMH, avoid Malaysia. A lot of info in the threads about application tips..

the issue with a VPN is that you would be violating the conditions of the visa if you are using the VPN to apply in a country that you are not physically in. When you initially set up the e-visa it asks you what country you are in and states if you can apply or not, just before you submit the application it asks if the information provided is accurate and by signing you are agree that yes, it's accurate and you are not falsifying anything. Clearly stating you are somewhere you aren't is falsifying the info. All that said, no idea how they would track it. People have commented in various groups they were asked for proof of being somewhere, like a hotel reservation or passport stamp and were denied when they couldn't provide it so it's a risk.

Are you in such a dire need for a DTV from Dubai that you are planning to cheat to get it. I wonder why.

I really wanted to know why the VPN came to your mind if not for cheating. They are asking for residency, and you want to circumvent that using a VPN.

they asked for residency card or passport and current utility bill or bank account (which requires residency) in other countries that require you to be a resident. They mean a government approved resident, not just present in the country. A VPN does not solve this.

It is for residency card holders only. You can get it easily online via a visit to the UK. You can do in person via Jakarta, Taipei, Laos, Yangon, Cambodia.Vietnam. A lot of SE Asian embassies will move online though from Oct.

When they go online do you think they will go locals or residents only like say Singapore?

An agent told me SE Asia will be open to non residents. London is open to non residents and other embassies too. No reason why SE Asia will differ.

OK. Sounds good. The Singapore Embassy was awkward. Our VP went to Thailand monthly so we asked for a multi-entry B Visa. Refused and said single only. We all just used Visa Exempts to come up for meetings anyway.

Singapore infamous for being difficult. Have they started the DTV?

I think for nationals and long term pass holders only. They are difficult but for "B" for jobs in Thailand they are most efficient. Last company I was at sent everyone there. HR did the package all labelled and partitioned. No need for agents.
