Are work permits and work visas related for expats in Thailand, and what happens if the work permit has expired?

Good afternoon. My husband’s work permit ended in September, but work visa ends in October. He doesn’t work , we are just waiting for our new visas to go to another country to be done. Everything takes a bit longer than we expected and we were going to ask for the extention of stay (I was advised by this group that we can do that with a letter from the employer). But now we have noticed this issue with his work permit (it is said in the stamp “He has 7 days to put his affairs in order and leave the country”). Could you please clarify if work permit and work visa are related? Are we in trouble?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The work permit and work visa are closely related in Thailand. The validity of a work visa is dependent on holding a valid work permit. If your husband's work permit expired, the extension to stay based on employment becomes invalid, even if the work visa is still valid. This could potentially lead to issues, especially if there is a stamp in the passport indicating a denial of extension and a notice to leave the country.

Your possession of a valid Work permit is one of the requirements for an extension based on employment. Even extension itself's validity is still remaining, that extension is invalid once you lost your work permit (or the work permit is expired).

,

If you want to make things to be sure, you can send me photos of the stamps on your passport, your husband's passport, and his work permit.

Is there already a stamp in the passport which says extension denied and you have 7 days to leave Thailand ???

What is your passport nation?

you need a letter from the company he worked at stating when he stopped work. You then need to officially cancel his work permit. Assuming you're actually on an extension of stay rather than a visa you have been on overstay since the date of this letter so if he's on friendly terms with his ex employer get that date as late as they will give it. The fine for overstay is 500 baht per day to a maximum of 20k baht, but if you're over 90 days you'll be deported and banned for a year

His and your permission to stay in Thailand ENDS when he stopped working...NOT when his extension of stay as working ends

do you have a letter from the employer to Thai no labor ministry to cancel the work permit? What date is on the letter as last day of work ?

is this the FIRST 90 days of the Non B visa for working?

Or an extension of stay as working in Thailand?

where did you see the 7 days remark?

Did the work permit get cancelled?

If it's cancelled...

Did you go to Thai immigration office and informed them that the work permit had been cancelled ?

excuse me , I misunderstood my husband’s words about the stamp. He doesn’t have any stamp in the passport . He was told that once the work permit is cancelled he has 7 days to leave Thailand .

But his work permit wasn’t really cancelled, he just stoped working for the company a couple of months ago and his work permit just ended in September.

He is Portuguese, I’m Ukrainian on family visa.
