TLDR : Answer Summary
The COVID visa extensions in Thailand are no longer available. Currently, the Myanmar borders are closed for foreigners. In contrast, the Laos border is open, and travelers may inquire about options at border points such as Chiang Khong for their stay.

one more if I apply and receive an evisa can I activate it by crossing the land border or is this only possible by airport immigration?

if you can get one you can use at a land border. No SE Asia embassy does them and usually you need to be in the country you’re applying at

yes but will they let you apply from overseas. Usually they ask for copies of your passport and would see a stamp showing that you’re currently in Thailand.

yes - I did this already twice and it’s conform with their regulations. My question is actually if I need to enter Thailand by air - I think that’s what I saw somewhere written.

once you have a visa to enter Thailand it doesn’t matter what border you use

Covid extensions are finished. Myanmar borders are closed for foreigners. Laos borders open.

What is your passport country?

then you’d get 45 days on entry. You can only do 2 visa exempt entries via land in a calendar year.
