Is it safe to do a border bounce to Mae Sai instead of extending my type O visa before it expires?

My type O visa has to be extended (after 90 days) on Sep 25th, so it says on the visa: "valid until Sep 25". for some reason, I don't want to extend it, but to do a border bounce to Mae Sai on Sep 25th instead. how safe do you think it is?
