Asking for a friend who’s in quite a predicament. Some background: he graduated from a university here this spring with a degree in hospitality, and was one week away from completing his internship at a hotel when the university and hotel jointly closed their internships due to COVID. He wasn’t able to get his diploma, but was told that he has technically graduated, but cannot get his diploma until this spring, when the new graduates receive theirs.
He’s from Nicaragua and there’s no Nicaraguan embassy in Thailand. Nicaragua is currently closed, so he doesn’t think he could even enter Nicaragua, even being a citizen. Not only that, but there are no flights to there anyway. He has been trying to get an embassy letter from the Nicaraguan embassy in Japan, to no avail yet. He had an ED visa that expired on 17th July (his extension stamp expired 18th July). He doesn’t have the funds to continue his education, and was planning to start working at a hotel, until COVID, of course.
Is there anything that he can do besides fly to another foreign country? He is fit to fly, so wouldn’t be using a doctor’s note. Maybe flying to Japan would be his best option? Is there anything that he or I am overlooking? I know this is totally last minute, and I apologize for that.
