I am preparing to move to Thailand at the begining of next year and will be applying for the DTV early in advance (I have my reasons for this but yes I know the clock starts ticking when the visa is granted not when you first enter)...
What I have noticed on this group, whilst I have found it very very helpful, is a lot people being mocked and patronised. I thought the whole point of forums and FB pages, was to help people, not a way to offload frustration & impatience at people from behind a screen? I personally have gained a lot from this group and am grateful for it, but I see a lot of people being quite brash with people who ask questions, and it's sort of not surprising so many people post anonymously.
If people post a question and have clearly done no research or couldn't be bothered to find the information themselves online or didn't try the search function, then I completely understand this would grow tiresome on the "veterans" of this page..... but my question is:
-why do people get accused of abusing the DTV when it comes to the soft power classes? I am asking this genuinely as I will be applying under the soft power category and would like to understand if I am missing something so I can reduce my risk of being rejected.
I have more than 500,000THB in my bank account (balance has been there for over 6 months), and I will be booking a 6-mnth Muay Thai membership with a reputable gym (already arranged)..... but why do I see so many people accusing posters of taking the DTV for granted by saying things like "you're getting a 5-yr visa for just a few months classes", etc, etc...
No one in the history of ever has surely booked 5 years worth of classes in advance before even getting to Thailand?! 😳 You wouldn't even do that in your home country, let alone a foreign country (whether you've visited 20 times or never)?!
Nowhere in the requirements does it stipulate you must be enrolled on a 5-yr long course... and the DTV is just an extended tourist visa, so surely the officers who process the applications will know you must be supporting yourself somehow and won't be taking classes for the full 5-yrs, otherwise the "entry requirements" would be different?!
Am I missing something?
I intend to actually attend my classes and am genuinely interested in practicing Muay Thai, but there's no way I would commit to 5 yrs upfront, and I can't imagine anyone else would either because so much can happen in that time.
I have prepared a good cover letter and meet the requirements, but there is a lot of scaremongering online, and a lot of people accused of abusing the generosity of the DTV and I'm confused why if the requirements are already laid out...
If someone could shed some light and share some comments, I'd be grateful... but please there's no need for narkiness or condescending - we are all learning and all had to start somewhere, and my question is genuine🙏
Hello, Im plannying to get DTV what soft power activity you recommed? I have my income but its not qualfiy for "remote work" so i need to think of other option maybe learn something new :) Any recommedations?
Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced accredited Muay Thai Gym in Thailand. I’ll be khon Kaen area. For the DTV do you actually have attend the course or just pay the money?
Hey, I need your help please. I would like to start of next year March for approx. 1 year to Thailand to visit several schools for Muay Thai aka Thai Soft Power. I've been trying to reach the consulate for 14 days. By phone and mail. But no chance. What kind of visa should I apply? DTV? And when should I apply for it? Thank you very much for your help. Best regards

DTV? Und wann soll ich es beantragen? Vielen lieben Dank für eure Hilfe. Liebe Grüße
Can anyone recommend a good long-term health insurance for the multi Thai DTV Visa?
Also, can people please tell me roughly how much they pay because I’ve got quotes that are super super high and just wasn’t expecting it to be that much money
I do also need to be covered for obviously the Muay Thai and also diving
Hi! I’m planning to apply for the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV), Soft Power – Muay Thai, while living in Pattaya. Could anyone who has actually applied via Pattaya gyms share your experience?
• Which gyms did you use? (name + location + manager contact)
• What package length worked for the visa: 6 or 9 months? Is 12 months worth it?
• Price: I’m seeing around 35–40k THB for 6–9 months — does that match your experience?
• Did the gym provide a full visa pack: Acceptance letter on letterhead + DBD (company registration) + SAT/Office of the Boxing Sport certificate + invoice? Will they email the letter directly to the consulate if requested?
• After approval, did they require attendance, or was enrollment/payment enough in practice?
• Any refusals/refunds? What were the refund terms?
• Which consulate did you use (HCMC, Vietnam or elsewhere), and did everything go smoothly?
• How long is the acceptance letter valid (can you defer the start if timing shifts)?
Would really appreciate short reports including: submission/approval dates, gym, price, package length, consulate, and whether you attended classes. Thanks!
Used the search function and found some good info on this group, and also quite a few long posts which were a little unrelated... so was hoping this might bring all answers into one!
Applying in UK with British passport.
Question:
-Please can you recommend best/cheapest muay thai gyms in Bangkok, that are experienced with the DTV and applications are successful?
Tiger Eye is currently top of my list, also because they offer yoga/meditation classes as a possible alternative (although not sure if that would be a valid option for DTV application - feel free to answer this too🙂).
Also, in your experience, are 1-mnth only memberships becoming less & less approved (need 3 mnths +)?
