ORIGINAL POSTER
Greeting! 2,5 weeks ago I had covid infection and recently I got a certificate of recovery from my doctor. Yesterday I tested negative for the pre-flight PCR test, so im ready to fly out to Phuket tomorrow. Still I am abit worried about day 1 and day 5 PCR test. I have read about people with recovery certificate that test neg pre-flight but positive in Thailand. I have read on Thai government webpage that you dont have to isolate/quarantine when testing positive if you have a valid certificate of recovery. I wonder, will I be exempt from isolation in Phuket if I test positiv on day 1 or 5, even if I had a negative test pre-flight?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the implications of having a COVID recovery certificate when traveling to Phuket, specifically regarding isolation protocols if testing positive on Day 1 or Day 5 after arrival despite having tested negative pre-flight. The responses highlight experiences and confusion around Thai regulations concerning isolation for travelers with recovery certificates, emphasizing the importance of timing related to infection and recovery.

what might be an issue for you is you may not be deemed recovered for 14 days? that is the thai rules.

i was recovered on 11 jan and entered on 26th

Check the infographics on the bottom. It says

"In case of positive RT-PCR result,

must have a medical certificate

stating that you have recovered from

COVID-19

(infected more than 14 days

but not more than 3 months"

Much better!

i hope it clarifies it for a lot of people..

I contacted Thai Airways since they generally match their rules to Thailand's rules. They would allow a recover certificate that was registered today if I were to have had been sick for 14 days already.

@Quest ********
its the use of the word recovered that is causing confusion..

in uk you are recovered after 10 days..

it would be much better if the thai rules didnt use the words recovered for 14 days! ..just something like at least 14 days from when covid was first detected would be better

yes i got the impression at immigration that the lady was looking at my date of recovery (10th) and my entry date (15th) ..she counted the days on her fingers!!

but...the 25th was the same day that guidance came out..

maybe they did that to clarify it..
Geoff ******
sorry entry 25th not 15th!

I think the wording was so unclear that even the consulates were confused. I know my friend specifically asked the consulate in Canada this question in early January and they specifically and clearly said that you have to have had the certificate for 14 days. So hopefully the more clear wording on the tat site and pr gov page will give us enough evidence to present to the person who actually makes the decision

yes i agree..when i arrived thai immigration clearly thought it was 14 days from my recovered date. that was 10th and i arrived 25th..the lady counted the days on her fingers!

i think the issue is thais use the past tense! if they said recovering rather than recovered it might be better because in uk you are deemed recovered after recovering for 10 days

@Geoff *****
So your experience with thai immigration was that they expected the certificate of recovery to be 14 days old?
Geoff ******
but this latest quote seems to say different!

@Geoff *****
I was pretty confused about their wording. It does sound like they are saying that you need to possess the recovery certificate for 14 days. But this quote from the official PR Thai Government page explains that the requirement is 14 days after infection, not 14 days after recovery

"2.5 If travelers' pre-arrival PCR test result is positive, they need a COVID recovery certificate in order to board the flight. If Day 1 PCR test is positive and they have a COVID recovery certificate, the doctor will assess your health, based on the fact that your COVID recovery certificate is only valid if you arrive in Thailand on a date that is no less than 14 days and no more than 3 months from the date of your positive test or when you were infected as shown in that certificate." posted Jan 25

things are much better than people imagine or claim..and it is relaxing more.

you can fly with most airlines with a positive test and a certificate of recovery..i just did it on qatar.

no problem entering thailand either.

my hotel told me not to worry if i was still positive because i had the certificate..ironically , having tested positive in uk i tested negative in thailand 3 days later.

but my hotel told me that unless i had a genuine fever the cert would have covered me if positive.

this is in line with the very latest govt guideance here..see link..last para

Geoff Bell I called Qatar airways last week and they told me I couldn't fly with a positive test even with a certificate of recovery. So, there might be a chance they won't let someone on the plane in that situation. But maybe they will...?
Geoff ******
@Tobias ********
i can tell you that is not correct.

i did it last week no problem

they look to make sure you comply with the rules of your destination

its worrying that call centres give wrong advice.

but they accepted my nhs recovery cert with a positive result
Geoff ******
qatar have no rules whatsoever..its the rules of your destination

I am in a similar situation. Be happy that you have a negative pre flight Covid test. Most airlines will not let you board the airplane with a positive test, even not when having a recovery certificate. And about your question: I think it will be hard to get experiences from people.

Good luck and i am not being sarcastic.
