I’m a 63 yr old American planning on applying for a non-O visa after I arrive on a 60 day tourist visa. Regarding income verification, instead of bank deposit, will the letter I can get from the the SSA website stating my monthly ss income be valid as proof? Thanks…

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring whether a letter from the SSA verifying monthly social security income can be used as valid proof of income when applying for a non-O visa after entering Thailand with a tourist visa. Comments indicate that this type of documentation will not be accepted for the retirement category of the non-O visa.

Yes it's a good option for many Americans.

Look at the requirements and meet them.

The only proof of monthly income a US person COULD use was the affidavit of income from abroad notary letter which was discontinued on Dec 31, 2018.

For you to use monthly income you'd have to transfer IN to a thai bank account in your name only a minimum of 65K baht a month each month for the previous 12 months πŸ™ That's the ONLy way you can show monthly income.

About the only way for you to do the in country Non-O 90 day visa and then they year extension the FIRST time would be to use the 800K baht banked money method. THEN start transferring in the 65K baht a month and use it the following year

and that would mean starting monthly 65k transfers at the same time as applying for the first 1year, in order for the 12mth transfer method to be used NEXT year

correct BUT that's the only way to get switched over to monthly income method if you're from a country that can't get the income affidavit issued anymore

AND

The sad thing is you have to meet the banked money seasoning requirements for the entire year WHILE you're transferring in 65K baht a month for next year <- meaning you keep 800K baht in a thai bank account for 3 months after you get your extension issued and then the balance can't go below 400K the rest of the year πŸ™

It's a tough one to switch from
