TLDR : Answer Summary
A traveler mentioned a hotel manager in Jomtien checking their exit date on their UK passport, an event they had not encountered in 16 years of visiting Thailand. Comments suggest this may be a routine practice for hotels to ensure guests are not overstaying their visas, primarily for TM30 registration purposes. Others shared experiences and opinions on the increasing observance of immigration rules in Thailand by various sectors, especially since the digitization of immigration processes.

Maybe he's on a percentage for grassing up overstayers. 😁

What's your point?

Never had it happen to me but I never went to splattaya

Never had that before .. it has nothing to do with them

I am noticing that all sections of govt are seemingly more observant of the rules, with the digitisation and automation of passports, and visa exemption, lots more undesirable characters are turning up. It follows that hotels and others will be pushed to do the governments work on searching overstays.

Probably looking if you could stay long enough to give you an offer to stay cheaper, if you will stay at than hotel all of your holiday.

What's the problem ?

Probably checked it many times without you knowing

They need the information to register TM30. Normally just photocopy data page and entry stamp

Seen hotels check that many times in the past...nothing unusual

He knows that if he chose to come to Jomtien you may never leave...

Some people say you can use your Thai driving licence to check into hotels. If that is the case, how can they check your latest visa (I have always had to provide my passport, I tried using my driving licence a couple of times and failed).
the driving license contains your passport number, so they COULD enter it into the TM30 system, though. But it has no other information, the most important being the expiry of the admitted stay, without which they cannot complete the TM30
the date is then the expiration of the extension of stay...same thing. I don’t know why you feel this desperate need to bicker. Meanwhile , if you didn’t know, why did you argue about it in the first place?
sorry but i don't have expiration day my tm30. I have tabien baan books where my addresses are as owner. Only if I bought new house or sell my old house then I do tm30. Sure tm47 every 90 days and 12 month extension staying in kingdom annually🙏

30 years Lek hotel, always front page and entry stamp copy
yeh maybe I’ve never noticed what they copy but one hotel I frequently went to was just photo page but I don’t see the big deal in it. I have nothing to hide
yeh all the hotels I’ve stayed in only used to copy passport photo page but now they copy my entry stamp aswell. At the end of the day if you arent doing anything wrong then i cant see why it is a big deal 👌

I highly doubt a hotel manager knows how to read and understand immigration stamps in a passport. Hell, even immigration officers at the airport can't understand my visa half the time and have to call over a supervisor.
why would a Thai have any reason to know how to read an immigration stamp? They don't get Thai immigration stamps. And as I said, even Thai immigration can't understand my visa half the time. You expect a hotel manager to?
