Why was the Chiang Mai Immigration Office unable to process other extensions recently?

This is more of an FYI for the admins. Feel free to transmit the info if you want.

The Chiang Mai Immigration Office was slammed with people applying for a COVID extension today. They stopped doing other extensions (I was there to apply for an extension based on Thai family but couldn't because of this).

TLDR : Answer Summary
The Chiang Mai Immigration Office was overwhelmed with applicants for COVID extensions, leading to a halt in processing other visa extensions. One user reports being unable to submit their application for a family-based extension due to this influx.

Sad to hear that ๐Ÿ™ and

Strange really seeing as the current covid extension program runs until next friday (the 26th) and we're waiting on the approval of the resolution the thai cabinet passed continuing it until Dec 31st..

Thanx for the update. (y) did they tell you to come back tomorrow or what?

I'm guessing people are assuming the new covid extension program is a done deal and applying for Covid extensions now with the intent of applying for another one at the end of the year. If it actually does get approved then applying now gets you no less time than if you apply next week, right?

Yes, come back. We can't come back tomorrow so we will have to make the 3 hour (each way) drive on Monday. They would not make an exception for us.
