Got to the Chiang Mai Airport immigration office at 8am. Information checked papers and gave us numbers to wait. Numbers 4 and 5 in line. Counters opened at 8:30am. We were done at 9:20am. Received a 15 day under consideration stamp for a 60 day Covid extension that will start today. This was on a 60 day tourist visa. Wife got the same. They specifically asked if we wanted the 60 day covid and explained we would lose the remaining days of our tourist visas. We go back to close on February 10th. A pleasant experience except for the person that couldn't stop coughing that we distanced from as much as possible. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Was there long lines of people waiting as in the past?

Nah, i was at CM immigration on wednesday. I am on a 60 day TR visa too. The volunteer in front of the building told me to just ask 60 days, reason 'covid'. The girl at the counter striked 60, changed it into 30, striked 'covid' and changed it into 'tourism'... I got a regular 30 days extension

in most immigration offices, you have to get a 30 day extension of stay based on tourism before you can get an 60 day extension of stay based on COVID-19.

Any recent news on the waiting time for the retirement extension as in the past it was quite busy.

no, try asking on a local group, they would know.

I second that. This is how the CHIANG MAI immigration handled this at the moment.

Reason we gave we were applying was "due to Covid epidemic".

Thanx for the update.

ATTENTION PEOPLE: this is an experience at the Chiang Mai Immigration Office ONLY..

IF you recently entered thailand on a 45 day visa exempt or 60 day tourist visa entry MOST immigration offices are MAKING you get the 30 day 'regular' extension rather than allowing you to choose if you want to apply for the 60 day covid extension or the 30 day regular extension.

AND

Keep in mind IF they allow you to get the 60 day covid extension because you're changing the reason for you being here (from tourism to because of covid) the extension starts on the date you apply for it and is NOT added to the end of your current stamp (meaning you lose any time on your current entry)
