⚠️ DTV Rejection - Hanoi (Applied 7 May, Rejected 14 May)

Applied under the Workcation category. Documents provided:

- Passport

- US LLC Articles of Organization

- IRS 147C Letter

- Client invoices

- Service agreement

- 3-Month bank statements (Wise + Thai bank)

- Cover letter

- LinkedIn + CV

- Professional website

- Flight ticket

There was a table of contents and all the relevant information was highlighted.

Went to Pending Approval on the 8th and stayed that way until today - rejected with no additional document requests. No reason given whatsoever.

Heading to Vientiane to reapply. Have you been getting rejections from Hanoi recently, regardless of document quality? Seems purely discretionary on their end. Would love to hear other experiences. 🙏
Answer summary
The user describes their experience with a recent rejection of their Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) application at the Hanoi embassy. They applied with thorough documentation, including their passport, client invoices, and bank statements, yet received no reason for the denial. The user is considering reapplying in Vientiane and seeks feedback on others' experiences with visa rejections, especially regarding the use of Wise and Thai bank accounts for financial support, which may be viewed negatively by the embassy.

I just got my DTV in Hanoi a few days ago in 5 days including weekend. No additional documents. I used my company bank account (Mercury), dashboard screenshot + 3 months statement. No personal bank statement.

Wise is a regulated payment and electronic‑money institution which provides multi‑currency payment accounts and related services. It is not authorised as a deposit‑taking credit institution and does not accept deposits or engage in lending as a bank would. Client funds held with Wise are safeguarded in segregated accounts but are not protected by a statutory deposit guarantee scheme in the same manner as traditional bank deposits.

So in short, Wise is the problem here.

I think having the money on Wise was the problem

Got rejected by my home country without any reason whatsoever. The embassy gave me 6 months multiple tourist visa instead.

Did you have your money in a regular normal bank or somewhere else?

Here's an idea, apply from your home country. I am sure they are going to start to see it as suspect when people apply for visas from countries other then the country they are from.

Back then like a year ago vientiane required you to go to the embassy and pay the 10k thb in cash , not sure hows it like now but if its the same thing better get your thb cash from an exchange in vietnam

I think you better season your local registered bank from now on to apply new DTV (before rules get more stricted), good luck and hear good news from you six months later.🫡

What visa were you on previously to be able to hold a Thai bank account?

I was advised against applying for a DTV visa at the Hanoi embassy, precisely because there are refusals without reason, even with strong applications.

They now want to see the salary from work coming into your bank account. Did you have that in your wise statement? If not then part of the problem. Or if it is coming into thai bank then a big red flag

Yeah I think it’s time to spend our money elsewhere where they appreciate it.

Imagine getting rejected while you have all requirements

As if your papers are suddenly magically different for an other embassy

Im assuming the company you work for is yours? I've seen alot ofnpeople applying the work cation route had to show a contract stating the individual could work in thailand and that they're not selling to Thai individuals or for a thai company , on their cover letter stating what their intentions are while in the Kingdom and making sure their account for the 3 months is seasoned- meaning they want to see transactions debits and deposits over the course of the 3month while the account balance ends in 500,000 baht

When I applied I emailed a bunch of embassies directly (Manila, Vancouver, Taipei) to ask them about Wise - they explicitly said to use a traditional bank. This was back in 2024 when the DTV was new though.

IndigoDolphin4669 I showed Wise and a traditional bank. Both combined to prove the requirement about 10k on each. I didn't have any issue.

Isn't it Thai Bank already quite a Red flag???😯😨 And right now situation better submit 6months. Most recent one-shot successful cases at Hanoi looks like with 6months income payslips and statements.

OP
CopperGoldfish1058 I spoke with a friend who went through the process last year. He did it entirely with his Thai bank account and deposited the 500k a day prior the application. I don't think the Thai bank account is a problem; it seems the rules are becoming stricter.

Anonymous participant the Thai bank account is now a problem as the DTV prohibits you free m having a Thai bank account. Even if you opened a bank account a long time ago you should show money ideally in a personal account from your home country. For a step by step guide with templates and checklists check out dtvquickdotcom

Anonymer Teilnehmer well, Wise is not a bank. so there is your error. that it was accepted in some cases is an exception. so a normal enforcement would always rule them out
GreyEle*******

CopperGoldfish1058 that stood out to me. How do you explain your company is US but he show them personal savings in Thailand.

GreyElephant🐘 sometimes I also doubt Wise whether should be considered as an official reliable one. But if there are some posts saying approved I don't want to say some negative on Wise too. Of course for sure showing foreign local registered bank should be the best choice.

Could the issue be with Wise and Thai Bank accounts? I thought funds needed to be shown in a bank account that is held in an account outside Thailand.

Wise is not deemed a bank account, it's a multi-currency account with features similar to a bank, but it's not a bank.

Using a Thai bank would does to not demonstrate your funds are being generated from outside Thailand.

Just my thoughts, could be wrong.

Approvals are given for funds in Wise and Thai bank accounts.

apparently not
Andi ***********

A. Nony Mous Approvals are given as loads of them have been posted using Wise. Not every Wise funded application is approved but that failure could be for a variety of reasons unrelated to Wise.

@Andi **********
how does this reconcile as an ordinary applicant which should be someone who runs a business or works for foreign company trying to be nomad inside Thailand yet their savings are already in Thailand. Smells fishy.
Andi ***********
Andi ***********
@Axel ******
It depends on the bank, some banks allow the account to remain open, others close the account,
Axel *******

@Andi **********
but wouldn’t that automatically lead to the bank account being closed as soon as you get the DTV given the strict rule around. Of course one would have to let the bank know about the visa switch ….

In Japan, where i also live, Revolut is the same as Wise, both not classed as banks, but accepted as such. For sure, Revolut is way more bank licensed than Wise worldwide. Bank of Thailand is now regulating Wise Thailand, so I think Wise likely to continue to be ok for the DTV. It is accepted for other Thai visas.
Dany ********
Dany ********
@Andi **********
Revolut has a bank license in various countries. Germay for example. So it is comparing apples with oranges. And if visa requirement enforcement tightens then Wise wont be accepted. logical consequence
Andi ***********
Andi ***********
@Dany *******
Yeah Wise is not a bank but widely accepted as such. Revolut also accepted for DTV applications.

@Andi **********
thai bank maybe yes. but Wise is not a bank and the fact that some people were approved with it was just based on lax enforcement of the rules.

GreyElephant🐘 An applicant may be living in Thailand which explains the bank account. You can find 100s of posts where Thai bank accounts are used. It is ok to have a Thai bank account. Some applicants were on other visas in Thailand and decided to switch to the DTV.
