Why is the HCMC consulate requesting extensive documentation for my DTV application compared to my partner's simpler approval?

Hi everyone, I’m French and I applied for the DTV via the HCMC consulate.

What I submitted:

- 6 months of French bank statements (showing 500,000+ THB savings + regular income).

- Employer letter confirming remote work, contracts, portfolio with screenshots of my work

- Proof of location in Vietnam (flight ticket, entry stamp, Airbnb booking, photo at accommodation).

Despite this, they came back asking for many additional documents (see attached screenshot).

My partner already got her DTV only with a simple portfolio, no recurring income, no tax docs, nothing else…

Has anyone else received such extensive requests, or is this specific to HCMC?

How did you translate them? Keep the original layout, use a certified agency?

What to include in the motivation letter?

Thanks a lot for your feedback!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A French expat applied for the DTV visa through the HCMC consulate, submitting extensive documentation, but received requests for additional materials. In contrast, their partner's simpler application was approved without similar scrutiny. The conversation discusses potential reasons for the inconsistency, the impact of applying outside one's home country, and tips for preparing the motivation letter and organizing documentation.

I wonder if it could be that your company is not easily verifiable enough, i.e., is it listed, well-known, has a website, etc.- perhaps asking for the company certificate? My company is listed, so I did not need to provide this. But they clearly want better proof of your income. To HCM, I provided payslips and separately a savings account statement showing my last 6 months. They still asked for bank statements highlighting the salary entering my account. In response, I highlighted this in a PDF. I also provided a screenshot of both accounts, plus a cover letter listing and explaining each document.

The gentleman is French and applied to Thai Embassy in Saigon, Vietnam. His girlfriend (nationality not stated) applied to Thai Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia. A few variables there.

Je suis en train de monter un dossier également. Je peux vous partager la lettre de motivation que j'ai préparée si vous voulez.

That’s the disadvantage of not applying in your homecountry, especially when you are from a non-english speaking country.

Probably you wouldn’t have been asked for additional documentation and translations, if applied in France.

In Vientiane, I got mine recently with the documents you initially submitted and also got one for my husband as a dependent. They called me in for an interview and checked my bank app to ensure I had the money in there historically. It seems like different consulates require different documents. Good luck!

Financial evidence (no less than 500,000 baht) for one person. My husband did not share his bank statement.

Nothing here is complicated. It seems like you are annoyed because your partner didn’t have to submit as much as you. Clearly they trusted the documents he/she submitted more than yours. For the motivational letter, just be honest. Why you want to be in Thailand and how will you continue your work,

Highlight the relevant transactions in your bank statement. Include a brief cover letter explaining your work, portfolio, and experience, goals in Thailand.

Anonymous participant 984 sorry but suggest you leave this forum as your fear mongering is not welcomed. The DTV visa is wonderful for the digital nomad... with hundreds of thousands of digital nomads worldwide. That's the primary target for the DTV visa, with soft power activity added as options for the DTV visa.

Sounds like someone from former French Indochina holding a grudge against the French. Nothing personal about it of course.

The applicant is French. Do you believe that the Thai Consulate in Saigon only employs Thais?
