Why is a signed bank letter required for my Thai wife visa extension?

As you say, a little annoying thing. Not worth losing any sleep over this. Simply get it, provide it to Immigration, get your stamp - and you are good for another year😉. Life is not as difficult as it seems.

Fake I just went to immigration to apply for my extension again. Bangkok Bank gave me the letter but I use the 40,000 a month they did not tell me to deposit 400,000 so this post is a lie

The logic is.. the first or preliminary visa getting from the overseas embassy. With this visa, can get a bank account in Thailand and then use it for future extension. The policy is not considered the ones applying in Thailand yet the procedures are the same. Got it?

Bureaucratic logic is based on reacting to people who game the system and having documentation that overcomes that. It accumulates over time and seldom are the old steps removed. In a few years another requirement is added. Rote learning assumes that the system is already correct and can't be streamlined or improved. Watch closely all cultures are just a repitition of truths that are self evident to all except the foreigners who don't understand our ways.

Uh I’ve never heard 4 months before. This is one thing that drives me mad here. There is literally zero consistency between IO offices and their requirements

I have an OA Visa that I got qualifying with my monthly income using my benefits letter from the United States Social Security. If I was to apply for the O visa when it expires and then try to convert it to the marriage visa what are the chances that I will also be able to use my income as the financial requirement and not have to put the money in the bank?

just another money making scheme for banks or governments !! and there doesn’t seem any logic in thailand at the moment !!! saying that most western governments same !! it’s power and control so the see and know everything but we all live in a democracy !!!!! haha

This is not a big deal. Guarantee letter. I have one every year for 7 years.

Effectively you just have to put up with it

When your extension or visa renewal is dependent on which side of the bed the officer in front of you got out of this morning

Bite your lip...pay the bank for their letter and statements. The Embassy gets what they ask for..You get your extension..Everyone Happy 😁

Stop over thinking and just do what they say otherwise you won't get very far in Thailand.

Thailand has some of the best “copy cat” talent on Earth. Any kind of document can be fabricated to near or complete authentic conditions here.

You are looking for a logical answer, in Thailand there is no logic. Best advise is can give you is stop thinking Western Logic as it doesn't exist here.

'Why' is not a word familiar to officials and it is unnecessary because it doesn't change the answer and the answer invariably adds to, rather than decreases, your frustration.😀

immigration offices in different provinces do things differently here in Thailand… just depends which person you get …. Just smile and go with the flow

First mistake is asking Why? You do that to often you will go mad in Thailand

Got my paperwork from the bank a few months ago for marriage extension she put the stamp on the letter but forgot to sign it IM officer looking at it and says just make sure they sign it next year. So sometimes you're lucky.

If you didn’t have a bank guarantee letter then anyone called John smith could give another John smith their bank account information to dupe the IO etc

And now Bangkok Bank wants you to keep 400k 2 months before 3 months after to do the letter.

They ask in order to provide an obstacle to hinder you.

I remember many years ago, when you entered on a new passport and you went to Immigration to have the 1-year extension stamp transferred from the old to the new passport, they required a letter from your embassy in Bangkok confirming that you indeed now have a new valid passport. When it defies any logic, it must be in Thailand 😎

In my bank they call it a guarantee letter. Basically the bank is guaranteeing to immigration that the account and the funds in the account belong to you

They love paper, especially those with big stamps on.

There is a warehouse somewhere that stores all these documents 📃 usually in triplicate probably owned by a wife of an immo officer 🤣🙈🙊🙉

Have never understand the purpose of a bank book. You need bank Statement that day certified letter to go with it. Never seen a bank book in America or Europe but they seem to worship them throughout Asia.
