Why does the Thai visa application form from Taipei mention Manila, and how should I fill in the address if I'm staying at a private residence?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses a user's experience applying for a Thai visa in Taipei, where the downloaded application form references Manila due to diplomatic constraints. It's noted that the Thai trade office in Taiwan uses the authority of the embassy in Manila for visa issuance. Suggestions for filling out the application include using a temporary hotel address and addressing specific visa application questions related to the purpose of the visit and proposed length of stay.

What do you fill out for #8 (purpose of visit to Thailand) if we are applying for DTV? Do we select Other and write DTV?

How do you fill out #9? (proposed number of days to stay in Thailand)

For #9 can fill in 180 days but the online form is outdated and won’t let you fill in more than 90days. My suggestion is to fill in what you can and other details fill in with a pen. 🖊️

I'm also wondering what to write about "length of stay." I think you can just write how long you plan to stay on your first visit. If longer than 180 days I'd just write 179 or 180 days because that's the longest the visa allows before an extension.

I figure DTV. I’ve been emailing them and they also send me the same form as an attachment. Up this far I’m happy with guidance they offer by email

I'll be writing DTV also and hopefully that is sufficient.

Okay, well I'll probably be there too with my girlfriend if you wanna grab dinner sometime in Taipei. I'm probably flying out on Tuesday or so, and then dropping my documents off on Wednesday.

I can confirm this is the correct form.

Because of the "one China" policy, Thailand does not have an embassy or consulate in Taiwan, just a trade office. Since the office in Taiwan is neither an embassy nor a consulate, it is not eligible to issue visas in its own right, so it uses the authority of the Thai embassy in Manila to do so.

Regarding the address, you can use any hotel in Bangkok, they won’t ask for proof.

thanks i appreciate your comment. I will be staying with family however

they asked for proof of residence outside of Thailand. I provided Taiwan ARC, but I’m not sure if they’re strict or can accept any other ID. I know some Thai embassies (like Japan) who will only issue visas to citizens or residents of the country. I’m not sure if Taiwan is also like that.

same in Spain, Singapore and HK. I had to deal with it in Spain before but from what I learned in this group it’s not the case for Taipei and Jakarta.

I think you can also use that address. It doesn’t really matter. But keep in mind that the Taipei office might require a proof of residence (ARC). I’m not sure if it’s strictly enforced though.

Manila won’t have traditional Chinese characters on their forms. These are used in Taiwan.

I would book a refundable hotel and use that in the form to avoid confusion and questions

I will be staying with family and it’s also written in a sponsorship letter. So obviously won’t be staying in a hotel 🏨

@Enzo *********
sponsorship letter? Why? Just book a hotel for a few days and cancel it after the visa is issued to avoid any confusion.
