As confirmed last week on their Facebook page the British Embassy are issuing letters to any British National on Amnesty who wishes to convert inside the country to a new visa whereby it's impossible to return to your country of residence.

The letter will only be issued once and it's your responsibility to meet the requirements of the visa you wish to apply for.

My issue was I live in a Thailand but am unable to border bounce to apply for a Non O based on retirement at this time.

I got my letter this morning and they took 3 days to reply and send it to me. The letter is valid until 26th September. I didn't supply any information for option 4 other than to state my intention was to apply for retirement status.

The procedure to do so is below.

Email

Bangkok.DocumentaryServices@fco.gov.uk

Please provide evidence of:

1. Copy of the biodata page of your passport

2. Entry stamp in to Thailand

3. Proof of residence in a third country e.g. visa (if applicable)

4. Supporting documents relating to your long-term visa application e.g. marriage certificate, employment contract.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The British Embassy is issuing letters to British nationals on Amnesty in Thailand, allowing them to convert to a new visa without leaving the country. The letter is valid until September 26, and applicants must meet specific visa requirements and provide necessary documentation, including passport data, entry stamp, proof of residence in a third country, and other supporting documents related to their visa application.

I have been unsure how to respond to question 3. Is proof of residence in a third country referring to residency in Thailand?

Reading the post it also says for others who cannot return home. Reads to me it is for anyone. No skin off my nose. Not paid UK taxes for over 20 years ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‡ Had plenty of free nights and parties at a British Ambassadors Residence though. Queens Birthday always the best party

some British Nationals live in other countries such as Malaysia and Singapore so will mainly apply to them in addition to those who currently reside on Thailand.

I am going tomorrow. My immigration office have known me a long time and stated if I get the letter they will grant me a 30 day extension and off the back of that allow me to apply for my Non O. My previous visa was a 5 year privilege entry visa.
