I left work at the end of a March and last payment was made end of April. Put my money into shares so current account kept to a small amount.

I want to go Thailand around 17th October on a non-O retirement 90 day visa and then extend there for a year.

I was going to apply end of August for it and just browsed the application and it says 800,000baht £18k, and 3 months statements. If I sell shares today, when I apply end of August, it will only show £18k for last 6 weeks. Is this a problem for me now? Or do they just look at the last closing statement?
Answer summary
The individual plans to travel to Thailand on a Non-O retirement visa and seeks clarification on financial requirements. They have concerns about the necessity of showing the £18,000 balance over a period of three months in their bank statements, especially after liquidating shares shortly before the application. Comments emphasize the importance of having the required funds ready for at least two months prior to the visa extension and suggest applying with an adequate closing balance, preferably showing the required amount consistently.

First welcome to the world of retirement I retired myself on March 1st I believe the way it works if your long is you're pulling an enough money you don't have to show the 800,000 for instance if you're been making maybe roughly $3,500 lb that's going to be enough on his ballparking here so there's a monthly requirement for a amount you have fixed in the bank of course you can Google it Good luck have a great retirement

Glen Prince thanks Glen and congratulations on the retirement.

My situation a bit more complicated. I had a pay off in April it was good enough for me not to pay myself again from a property company until next tax year.

Current accounts pay no interest so I bought stocks and bonds with the intention of selling when I needed.

OP
I’m confused by last 2 posts.

AI?

I’m aware I need it to transfer, but that’s in late October. So my plan was to transfer it nearer the time I left.

I just wasn’t aware I needed it for the initial 90 day visa.

You really didn't plan this at all did you because when you get to Thailand on your Non-O obtained with the funds in your home bank you would need to transfer it your Thai bank account when it is set up to season for 2 months for your extension. You should have held this sum back to avoid any doubts.

Graham Seal with all due respects, I’m not going until late October. No reason to have the funds ready for the 2 months after I land.

I just wasn’t aware I needed it for the initial visa.

Ame S Singh Yes but you also need the 800k about 2 months before you travel for the initial Non-O visa application so that should have been set aside

Thanks John, the messages from AI and searching online have been so mixed. So it makes sense to apply first week of September and closing balance should be at least £18k for two end of month statements.

ignore AI, it's frequently wrong on visa matters as there's so much misinformation out there. Your plan should be fine but you could also apply in August.

thanks. I’ve sold shares to fund my account now. Cash should be in my acct tmrw.

I’ll stay with first week Sept so it shows at least 6 weeks balance over 18k and leave it there for the application in Thailand. I know it’s need 2 months parked in a Thai acct.

As long as you have more than the £18k as the closing balance of the most recent statement that should be OK
