TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the complexities of choosing between a Non O-X visa (which can be obtained for 5 years) and a spouse visa for expats in Thailand. Some comments highlight the requirements for both visas, such as minimum bank balances for extensions. Others express opinions on the cumbersome nature of marriage visas due to yearly paperwork and suggest that a simpler visa might suffice. Ultimately, some prefer a marriage visa for work opportunities while others recommend avoiding marriage complications.

Getting married isn't the problem it's when it goes tits up then you have to worry about all your worldly possessions

I guess it depends what you want. I opted for a marriage visa because I can work in Thailand with a valid work permit. I could have gone for the far easier retirement visa but I still have a few years of work left in me so why not. The pension will still be available in a few years.

Marriage visas are a pain in the ass, so much paper work every year, I'm going to change back to the retirement visa this year
