If I want to move to Thailand, where I can get health insurance
Answer summary
When moving to Thailand, expats have various options for obtaining health insurance. They can acquire policies through local insurance companies, international firms, or brokers. Notable providers include Safety Wing, Cigna Global, AXA, and AIA. The choice of insurance often depends on individual needs, age, and pre-existing conditions, as some policies may not cover the latter. Recommendations suggest starting with short-term policies and gradually exploring longer-term options tailored to your circumstances.

You can't move to thailand you can only stay there for 180 days per year unless you want to be snared into paying your worldwide income tax and having to hire an expensive Thai authorized accountant. This is going create an uproar to all the long-term expats who have been living there since jan

Stephen Quinn surely if you are 'moving' to thailand and assuming you have saved enough money that you wont be looking for a work permit to earn a wage, then even staying full time theres no income to tax?... I know my DTV you dont need a thai bank account or show a wage going in to one... I get taxed through my home country for the work I do remotely and theres no addition tax off the thai government as the double tax thing exempt me... or im hoping so! Be interesting to learn more

You found the place - post that question here and 50 agents will contact you. When you research try to find reviews from people who have claimed. Too many people judge "how good" their insurance is by how much they pay. The only way to judge any insurance is by how much they pay out and how easy the claim process is. I went with a local provider with local representatives I could actually talk to locally, avoiding these online only global poroducts. If you're in hospital and they are looking for confirmation of cover or payment you are always going to be better off when they have people on the ground in country.

Your post is way too vague. How old are you? Do you have pre-existing conditions? Where do you plan to live in Thailand, its a big Country, some places have big hospitals and plenty of clinics others don't have access to care for several kilometers drive. Are you looking for complete inpatient and outpatient coverage? Start by looking up AXA and AIA for reputable Thai companies.

I shopped and shopped and ended up using Pacific Prime. I found they had the best policies at the best price.

Be prepared though because pretty much everything you have ever been to a doctor for or is reveled in the medical physical you most likely will need to get depending on your age, will all be pre existing conditions and if anything happens that in any way can be connected to any of those conditions will not be covered. This is true with all insurers.

If you're under age 50, Safety Wing or Genki would likely be your best options. If you're 50+ and retired in Thailand, then you may want to explore more comprehensive healthcare options. Some of the more reputable insurers are AXA, Allianz, or Pacific Cross. Most people self-fund outpatient care, since the costs generally never meet the deductible. You'd definitely want insurance that covers inpatient emergency care that suits your needs.

Thai companies can be tricky and often want you to pay a year up in advance. Check out safety wing, Cigna global, and Genki insurance. It is not bad. You never know if these things are going to ever pay out or not. Sometimes we do, sometimes it doesn't, but I found that works well for me. I've never had to claim so who knows.

They don’t have health insurance here like we have health insurance in the US. At least that has been my experience and I’ve been very disappointed. Here it’s all accident injury insurance. There’s no cheap doctor. There’s no reduced fee for diagnosis. It’s only if you’re injured yourself or have been injured by someone or something. So don’t get too extravagant with your insurance purchase. Above and beyond that there are a myriad of little things that you would never think of being different or some extra part of something, and that something gets a fee that’s not included in your insurance if you were injured and you needed this extra thing.
