TLDR : Answer Summary
A visitor to Thailand with a 60-day stamp can apply for a 30-day extension at immigration offices when they have 30 days or less remaining on their current stamp. While most offices allow this application within the last 30 days, some may allow it as early as 45 days prior, and a few only permit applications in the last week. It's important to do a TM30 registration within 24 hours of entering Thailand. Extensions typically cost ฿1900.

In Jomtien I had to wait until the last day. Tried to go a few days early and after they looked at all the things you have to do making sure it was right I was told to come back the day of expiration. One other time I had a flight to Phuket a few days before it was due and I was going to Phuket for a while a week and the Donkey Hole told me to bad! I had to pay an agent to get it done! They can be real Donkey Hole there!

not any time. If you go too early you'll be turned away

At most immigration offices you can apply when you have 30 days or less left on your existing stamp. A few allow 45 days or less but easier to just stick to the 30 day rule as it'll be safer.

Unfortunately there are also a few offices that only allow you to apply for a tourist extension during the last week of your stamp. These offices include Jomtien/Pattaya, Koh Samui and Kob Phangan.

Requirements vary by immigration office but here are some common requirements.

and even then they (jomtien) have been known to refuse you unless it's the last day of your visa.

Varies between immigrations, some allows you to apply within the last 45 days, most within the last 30 days, but some only within the last week. The extension will always be added to your last day anyway. You can apply where you are at date and your latest TM.30 address registration is registered.

yes. The 30 day extension costs ฿1900. Don't forget to do a TM30 within 24 hours of entering Thailand and take a copy to immigration

@Phil *****
Surely the TM30 is the responsibility of the hotel?
Phil ******
@Ralph ******
yes if your staying there get a copy of the receipt as some Immigration Offices are requesting a TM30.
Ralph *******
@Phil *****
Yes. If you intend getting an extension then you may as well ask.
Phil ******
@Ralph ******
OP talked about getting an extension
Ralph *******
@Phil *****
Yes. But unless he’s staying at the same place for 60 days, it’s better to ask when you need it.
Phil ******
@Ralph ******
no he can disappear up to Isaan on the strength of hotel TM30 receipt
Ralph *******
@Phil *****
Then checks in to another hotel which files a TM30. The one he’s holding is now obsolete.
Phil ******
@Ralph ******
don't understand what are you talking about? The first TM30 will do and its WITHIN 24 HOURS OF ENTERING THAILAND. Subsequent checking in are meaningless to immigration and you need to read too.

@Phil *****
if the tm30 address is 700 km from the io that he applies for his extension at he might have a problem. Best to get a tm30 from the place he is staying at the time of application.
Phil ******
@Nick ***********
a TM30 must be completed within 24 hours of arrival in Thailand.

It is irrelevant if he's 700 kms away.

Here's the IO info.
