Hanoi DTV updates

Hello dear friends, just share my experience with the DTV application. Almost wanted to give up but eventually got it today. Total from 13th to 25th May.

Applied with daughter together DTV based on Daddy’s DTV visa on 13th May. Got cancelled application on 14th early afternoon. Reason is using my marriage name which is on the remarks page(uploaded for application) as the applicant.

After cancellation we called the embassy try to save it but they say they only see the bio page. On 14th late afternoon we submitted new application without using marriage name.

On 15th May it switched to processing approval until 25th May. During the days, no needed documents needed. My situation is I have 15 days visa in Vietnam. And it’s already 14 days without updates, so today noon I emailed embassy explaining the situation. After 1 hour, my daughter’s visa got approval but mine still nothing. After another hour, my husband tried to call the embassy and kindly requesting to get some updates and explained the visa issue, they say I’d better prolong the visa stay because they can’t guarantee anything. They asked to send my visa valid documents here in Vietnam to their email.

After another hour, I got visa approval. Here is our visa application process. Initially, many people said that applying for a DTV dependent visa would be faster, taking two to three days. However, this isn't actually the case; everyone's situation is different. I'm just sharing my experience for reference. Thank you to everyone who helped me and replied to my post during this time.

Good luck everyone 🍀🍀🍀

For several years we obtained and renewed our visa using the 65,000+ THB monthly income method.

The first and most important point — if you apply in Thailand (not in your home country), when applying for the first one-year visa you must already have at least 3 months of transfers to your Thai bank account of 65,000+ THB per month.

Only transfers to a Thai bank account count.

Second: when renewing the visa in following years, they check every single month separately. It does not work if you transfer a larger amount once for 2–3–5 months ahead. It must be a transfer every month, and strictly 65,000+ THB each month. Even one baht less may result in visa denial.

Third: when using the 65,000+ THB method, you must also provide a letter from your Embassy (at least in our case, it was absolutely required). Our Embassy issues such letters, but not all embassies do.

Now we switched to the 800,000 THB bank deposit method, and honestly it is much simpler in terms of paperwork and renewals.

Marc Haagen ATTENTION! Something is missing! Irina forgot to mention that you CANNOT get a Thai bank account opened anymore if you entered on a tourist visa or visa-exempt. You MUST apply for the Non-Imm-O Visa BEFORE YOU FLY TO THAILAND, as since February 2025, only on this visa you can get a Thai bank account opened. What Irina did, she did long before February 2025 when it was still possible.

You’re going to Pattaya and don’t want to follow the rules. Get an agent. I think 35,000THB. They will take care of the requirements, but I’m pretty sure you still need at least a Thai bank account. I’ve heard the purple bank is easiest to do now days.

It has been a long time but can you no longer do 1 retirement and 1 spouse of retired. We did it years ago before my husband died. Thus 1 deposit of 800K

Read the requirements. You cannot use 65,000 until after first extension, how many times must people be told this.

Kevin O'donnell please give people accurate information. The 65k can be used from the beginning.

Thank you Greg! So I would file for a 90-day Non-Immigrant O visa with proof of 2 (of 3) month Belgian bank slips (etc...), then in Thailand asap open a bank account and get pension(s) transferred to; for the 1 year extension prove with affidavit Belgian embassy and Belgian Mypension service that I (we) have min. 65.000 THB/month and are transferring them to Thai bank account (bank book, letter from Thai bank etc...) Could this be done? Can anyone please check, prove, show, send the exact rules from HH?! Many thanks! (Big step, emigration with 2 to T, so we prever not to get disappointed after 3 months he he...)

Marc De Groote Thank you Marc, that´s 3 people now saying this!!

Marc De Groote read the requirements it cannot and don't say otherwise. 800,000 must be deposited and seasoned for two months prior to extension and must be held for 3 months after. For the year extension you must show 12 months of deposits of

, no ifs no buts.

Marc Haagen WATCH out, even Irina's info is partially incorrect. FIRST: You must arrive in Thailand on a 90-days Non-Imm-O Visa. SECOND: you must get a bank account opened ASAP. THIRD: visit Immigration and ask for the handout list of the requirements to the 1-year extension. Many Immigrations have made up their own specific requirements. Many Immigrations will ask you to show some minthly transfers into your bank accounts, despite you using the income affidavit as financial proof. They want to see that you are transferring money from abroad to pay for your living expenses. Not every Immigration will require every of these transfers to be over 65,000 THB per month - this simply is NOT TRUE -and you MUST ask your Immigration what they especially require in this case. . . . . . The monthly transfer method is only regarding citizens of countries whose embassies are not issuing income affidavits anymore. You as a Belgian citizen can ignore these advices
Marc ********
Marc ********
Greg Alexander Thank you Greg, also Irina (read further...) says this!
Greg ***********
Greg ***********
Kevin O'donnell Your advice is only partially correct. For the application to the 1-year extension of stay permit, a Belgian citizen can still use proof of monthly income of a minimum of 65,000 THB, by presenting the income affidavit of the Belgian Embassy in Bangkok. He/she does not need the 800,000 THB deposit. . . And they DO NOT NEED a 12-months transfers statement from their bank !. . . . . . . . .This 12-months of incoming from abroad transfers proof by a 12-months bank statement is generally only allowed for and done by citizens of USA, UK, Australia, Canada and Norway, because their embassies do not issue income affidavits anymore. Your are confusing the methods available for citizens whose embassies still issue income affidavits
Greg ***********
Greg ***********
Kevin O'donnell it depends if the Belgian embassy is still issuing income affidavits. If they do, they can both use their pension for the financial proof for the 1-year extension

That´s right Daren...! If the ´OR´ would not be there, written? If anyway, either way one must deposit (2x) 800.000THB, then what use does that ´65.000 per month´ have, right? It´s also that we know a Belgian who did, does this, proof of income with Affidavit, and he keeps his pension in Belgium. True! (He lives in another province dough, not in HH, and says it can be different rules from Immigration to Immigration, AND changing when the personel change...(?!) Pff... Thanking you all dear gentlemen for you efforts. I have just written HH Immigration and hoping they answer...

Kevin O'donnell It is because the Thai immigration site says either or, or a combination of both.

For the application to the 90-days Non-Imm-O Retirement Visa through the e-visa online system in Belgium, both of you can use your original pension documents.

When you arrive in Thailand, you need to get a bank account opened, each of you, as soon as possible.

However, for the application to the "1-year extension of stay permit based on retirement" on Immigration inside Thailand, BOTH (!) of you need a Thai bank account in your sole names, and on each bank account you need a deposit of a minimum of 800,000 THB.

On the day you apply for the 1-year extension, this money must have been sitting in your account since 2 months, and you need the bank letter that confirms it.

You do NOT need a proof that the money came from abroad. However, Hua Hin Immigration often also asks for some document showing the "source" of the income (your pension documents will suffice).

*** Alternatively, you could ask the Thai Embassy in Brusselles if they allow your wife to apply for the 90-days Non-Imm-O DEPENDENT Visa. In case they allow it, only ONE of you would need the financial proof. The other one could then “piggyback” on the visa and the 1-year extension of the main caretaker, without having to prove own income or deposit.

Please: does anyone know, can prove, show, send the EXACT HH rules in 2026 for first time extending non-immigrant O visa (90 days) to 1 year? Thank you in advance, ladies, gentlemen...!

Marc Haagen These requirements list from the Immigration Hua Hin that's all I found in my files. It could be outdated. You should visit them and ask for the updated list of requirements (also because the lower part of this list is missing)

Greg Alexander, I think the Dependant visa is allowed only for LTR visa, perhaps Marc can look it.

Barath Faust some Thai embassies allow the wife to apply for the 90-days dependent Non-O visa without own financial proof, if the husband is willing to apply for the 365-days Non-Imm-O/A Longstay Visa. That's at least what we know, based on many reports
