This has probably been asked 1000 times, but I am 64 and can work remotely and I’ve been going to Thailand twice a year for a couple of months each time for around 4 years- never more than twice in a Calendar year and I’ve never overstayed my requirements..

Next year I intend staying a little bit longer and am thinking 2 or 3 months maybe 3 or 4 times on the year - and beyond .

As I work remotely I was thinking that the DTV Visa would be appropriate but a friend of mine suggested the non o- I’m from Australia so currently we have 60 days Visa exempt but that will change at some stage.

The DTV was my initial preference given that it gives me a five year Visa with up to 180 days per trip and of course multi entry for up to 5 years.

I’d be very interested to know your views and apologise if this has been asked previously.
Answer summary
The user seeks advice on which visa to choose for extended stays in Thailand while working remotely. They are considering the DTV (Digital Nomad Visa), which allows for longer stays and multiple entries, or the Non-O visa. There is a discussion about the legal implications of working remotely in Thailand under these visas, with clarification that the DTV Visa is seen as the more appropriate option for remote work, despite concerns regarding legalities.

As John already wrote:

With none of your mentioned visa you are allowed to work remotely in Thailand except the DTV. So if you want to go the right way, it should be the DTV.

Yes, there are many people who say "how should someone know" but it just needs one angry neighbor or one wrong talking in a bar by a beer and immigration can knock on your door.

As long as you dont tell anyone about it, you can get a METV. You are not either legally allowed to work on a visa exemption, but how do anyone know?

You can't legally work on a Non-O visa based on retirement, either remotely from Thailand or inside Thailand. The DTV based on Workation is your only option to do that, unless you qualify for the LTR Work From Thailand Professional visa.

you can’t legally work on the DTV either. it doesn’t come with a work permit.

what it comes down to is that the government and police aren’t interested in prosecuting fully online work down for entities and customers outside Thailand, regardless of visa type.

the DTV merely provides a visa for that purpose, within that gray area.
