What Visa Options Are Available for My Mum After Her Retirement Visa Expired While Stuck in Australia?

Edit- My Mum holds a UK passport but was visiting me in Australia. She does not have medical insurance whilst living in Thailand- she was medically self funded.

Asking on behalf of my Mum who is currently stuck here in Australia. She normally lives in Thailand on a retirement visa. This visa has since expired since she’s been stuck in Australia. She is nervous about getting back into Thailand and wants more than a 30 day tourist visa when she finally does get in. Anyone else been in the same situation or have any advice? Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user's mother, who lives in Thailand on a retirement visa, is currently in Australia. Her retirement visa has expired, and she seeks advice on how to return to Thailand with a suitable visa longer than a 30-day tourist visa. Community responses suggest she should apply for a new Non-O visa from Australia, but there are currently no options for entry into Thailand due to the pandemic.

Sam Rou I hope you have the answer, some people just love to hijack this post to discuss insurance policies and this page is still not named insurance advice.

Your mother will have to re-start the process to enter Thailand and no longer has a visa or extension of stay. As of right now, there is no method for her to enter Thailand.

Assuming she holds an Aus passport, she can either get a Non-O visa and an extension of stay, a Non-OA visa, or a Non-OX visa, depending which option is best for her.

Make sure her medical insurance lasts for a year. We got caught out with this and only got five months on our OA visa in Thailand. We now have to do a full extension, in country, seven months before we planned and are struggling to have the funds required. Hope that is helpful. In short, have as much validity on the health insurance as possible!

Depends on the visa. The Non-O and the extension of stay does not require the medical insurance, however the Non-OA does.

Hospitals are not free in Thailand, and everyone should have medical insurance

We were given a list of things needed to extend. Our OA ‘retirement visa’ certainly does need medical insurance, I suspect that might be what Sams mum has.

The Non-OA visa does need medical insurance to acquire an extension of stay based on "retirement", however the Non-O visa does not. I don't feel comfortable assuming what a person has, unless they say otherwise
