TLDR : Answer Summary
If you plan to stay in Thailand for 3-6 months without a return ticket, you should consider several visa options. It's crucial to know the type of visa you need and the regulations that might apply upon arrival. You may require a Multi Entry Tourist Visa (METV) that allows multiple entries within 6 months, granting a 60-day stay per entry. Airlines may ask for a return ticket, so it's advised to either purchase a dummy ticket online to meet airline requirements or be ready to explain your travel plans to immigration upon arrival.
Just get a dummy return ticket on line for 10 bucks , airline check-in is your biggest risk could bring your trip to a grinding halt if they ask…

This could depend who you fly with and the Immigration Officer that you meet on arrival.
Are you arriving with a Visa or Visa Exempt? You may be required to buy a return ticket before you enter.
you will only get a multi entry visa if you can demonstrate you need one. So when applying on the e visa system you will need to show flights or transport out of thailand and then back in again, just arriving with no exit will not get you the multi entry visa
